  • High Reving??

Hey guys, so tonight I am driving home at like 3 am. All of a sudden I notice that my car isnt really picking up as much as it usually does. I am trying to just speed up to the speed limit after a red light but first and second just rev almost to 5000 RPMS before barely picking up speed. It revs high almost instantly but my car barely moves. Thinking my clutch or transmission is gone?? Was going up bow trail hill and all of a sudden I cant get my car into any of the gears, was forced to pull over and see what was up, finally get my car into first and everything but once again it still revs high and I barely move.

Whats up with my car?? Got Upsolute chip and ABD split second boost controller, would it be because of all the extra power?? My friends clutch went pretty fast as well even before he had a chip, and it was on his 04 GLI. Anyone else having this problem or what should I do??

intercooler pipe? Mine blew off my high pressure side diverter tube the other day, and it did that.....wouldn't make boost, probably threw a code.....I would check the piping first.....

Hmm intersting never though of that, then again I am a noobie when it comes to doing stuff ur self or repairing my own car hehe. Just kinda getting into this stuff, so would it be really noticable if the pipe was blown? sry once again really noobish to all this. But my clutch does feel really lose as well, like when i push it in theres no resistance at all, usually its a bit harder to push in.

Ps. I can hear my turbo though, so if you mean it wouldnt make boost I can hear it but it just doesnt do nething.

do you hear any loud whooooooshing noises? (generally indicating a boost hose leak)

if its your clutch the revs are going to climb really fast and be wacko ie.. 6000rpm doing like 30km/hr in 1st gear

If you live in the NW I can help you out with a VAG and see what else is wrong.

Boost leak? Bad DV? Bad MAF?

boost leak or clutch would be my first guesses. i would lean more to clutch due to the fact you were saying it was sluggish the whole way to 5000rpm. a boost leak would mean the higher you rev the less power would be made, and down low the 1.8 would still produce power before the turbo hit full boost.

internet diagnosis is never really easy tho, so i would either take a look yourself for any boost leaks, or take it to a shop if you are unsure

Ryan this is exactly what it is happening so most likely clutch then I am thinking, mmm how much is this going to cost roughly?

Qua I live in the SW hehe, but maybe could possibly get my car to the NW, I am going to have to at some point to bring it to Northland ugh!

Also would this be short due to extra power?? Ie: chip

I dont think Clutch's are covered under warranty. Im not sure though. My friend needed a new one and I believe the stock clutch is quoted at $1200! I might be wrong though as this is how much my friend told me. Eutuning can get some Spec clutch's for a good price I believe.

I'll be able to add some info in a few days. I believe my clutch is slipping (see related thread) and am taking my car into Davey at SCFC on Tuesday. Pretty lame for a stock motor with 40,000km. If it does end up being the clucth, I'll be able to tell you exactly how much it costs. :|

Clutch is a wear item and even more so with the extra UP power. Buy the VR6 clutch kit and have a shop install it. I don't know if that's something Dave could do? I think c1s package is 1000ish installed.

Somewhat related to this I'm curious what's going on with my car these days. When I accelerate hard in first the car jerks forward at some points in the revs. It feels almost like tires slipping and grabbing, but I know my tires are not slipping... any thoughts??
