Never count on the stealerships time estimates, remember they have to add standing around doing nothing time in there.

Should call VW and try to get some reasoning behind why you can't replace parts in a product that you bought from them, with parts that you buy from them.

Yeah . . . give it to them (politely at first). And don't take 'no' as an answer from the first person you speak with . . . even if they screw you in the end, make them work for it.
