  • Need Samco Elbow, 135* bend

Hi does anyone know where I can get a Samco or similar silicon elbow with a 135 degree bend? I am making my own ghetto intake and I need that...

Also any tips on diameter? I mean our MAF is something like 2.75" outside diameter right? (So should I buy the 2.75" or 3.00" silicon hose?????)

Try Hose Headquarters.. right where Speedville used to be. Apparently they can make you whatever you want!!

You could also just get pvc U bend from a plumbing store.. seen that lots on AW.
The main thing to worry about is the heat sheilding.. the reason why all intakes commercially made for the A4 havent got great reviews.. they are heat soaked in a matter of minutes!

Yeah...because I will probably be on strike in a matter of days here, I am trying to fabricate a BMC CDA-like solution via a 1 gallon paint can...ghetto I know...so it's like the CDA, just without carbon fiber or engineering...!

Thanks buddy, I'll check em out....

EDIT: Pending any extra change I have lying around, I may wrap the inside or outside with Koolmat or similar...

With my 2.8 I used a heat reflective wrap that worked fairly well.. got it as CT for cheap. (It was a reflective silver, and kinda a bubble wrap material in the middle)

Keep us updated on the intake, I would love to see how it turns out and maybe give it a shot!

Sure thing! Anything's gotta be better than just a filter on my MAF...!
Hahahaa....man, my Audi is the opposite of yours, mine is pure ghetto...!

The prev owner's boost gauge tap is held together by epoxy and silicon sealant....!

If it makes you feel any better, my boost gauge tap isnt done properly either..

So you currently have a filter straight on your MAF? What kind of filter is it? I was thinking about trying to make an intake, just havent gotten around to it quite yet.

Right now it's just a Ractive one...the kind with the inverted top so more filter surface area...it sounds good, especially when I give 'er, but you can feel the power loss when its hot out, or in stop and go traffic...even sitting at a light when it's 20+ out you can tell...I do have the stock heat shield in place, and it does make a little difference, but the under-hood air is just too hot....

The LLTEK/EVO one still gets heat soaked like mad (like you mentioned) so I am hoping a sealed unit like the BMC CDA will fair better...I just gotta figure out what filter will be big enough but not too big that it chokes itself off when enclosed like that...the steel can it'll be sitting in combined with some reflective wrap will help with temps I hope....as for water ingestion, I probably will figure out another makeshift solution (like punching holes in the tube that will be feeding from my lower grill)....

The power loss might be from your intercooler heatsoaking, but hot air intake contributes to that as well.

You know who has an awesome flowing filter? HKS Super Megs Flow. A million ricers aren't wrong.

                  LOL....!
Or another good one is the Apex'i one...but its friggin like 120.00 or something ridiculous like that...!!
It's a dry cotton filter, which according to comparisons on an R34, made the 3rd most gains in HP and but filtered the best....

I wouldn't put it past my tiny little intercooler either....piece of crap....

Intakes on A4's are notorious for robbing power from heatsoak. The actual filter is within about 30cm of the manifold and turbo, so that sucker gets hot! I know my manifold and turbo are far from stock, but I cant keep my hand within 20cm on the manifold after a spirited run for more then about 20 seconds.. The airbox is one thing Audi engineered very well.
The only way an intake will be somewhat efficient on an A4 is if you have one mother of a heatshield. IMO it would be better to spend more time and money fabricating the sheild rather then the actual intake.

Except mine will not be made of carbon fiber. Mine will be made from a 1gallon steel paint can.
