alright well i found a decent set of Mercesdes AMG rims, the bolt pattern is 5x112.... i know i will need adapters to get the rims to fit, but my question is do adapters bolt onto the hub or somthing then the rim mounts on to that. And if i wanted to remove the rims and put the stock ones back on would it be that hard? jason i beileve you have them on your mk3 can any one shine light on to this subject for me? thanks!

Re: Adapters??
yea i love the look! i agree nismo it looks sooo much hotter on a wagon. the wheels are pretty cheap i'll probobly have to get them refinished at AWR which i'm not looking forward to and i'll have to see how much simon can get some adapters for!!

Re: Adapters??
Yup, I have adapters (H&R), I was nervous at first but man they are no big deal, I did my 3000 km road trips on TERRIBLE roads and never had a problem. They rock my world. Even though I have CL and the wheels look terrible I still get lots of compliments on how cool they look (even from non car people).
Yes, the adapters bolt up to your car with special bolts (usually provided) and then the wheel bolts on to them. I'm not sure if 5x112 to 5x100 is sold or not so it might be a custom thing.
But def ask Simon, they aren't cheap but Simons price on mine were so much cheaper I couldn't believe it.
Things to think about when fitting different wheels is figure out what the offset of the wheels you're putting on, then calculate the adapter size and rim width into it to figure out where the edge of the wheel is going to sit. Also, you want to try and make sure the adapter is hubcentric. I found it really confusing at first, but I had some help and now it's pretty straight forward.
Here's what I have.Last edited by Tuna; 07-20-2005, 08:45 AM.Jay

Re: Adapters??
well i looked into adapters and found a set of h&r's that are 5x100 ---> 5x112, thing is that it says its made for audi A4,A6,A8 and i don't really think that matters though, cause the bolt pattern is the same.
alright so that wheels width is 8.5 inchs, offset is 37mm, and my choices for adapters are 20mm, 22mm, or 25mm. id like to go with a wide stance but not too wide that i'll end up rubbing.(some rubbage is ok though) so which ones should i got with???
and i heard so much about adapters being so expensive that i added a few bucks to the total price and its still cheaper then buying new rims from a shop. the thing that kills me is the price of tires!! i don't want to cheap out on that either cause road noise sucks!!Last edited by Hardy_Boy; 07-20-2005, 10:19 AM.

alright so that wheels width is 8.5 inchs, offset is 37mm, and my choices for adapters are 20mm, 22mm, or 25mm. id like to go with a wide stance but not too wide that i'll end up rubbing.(some rubbage is ok though) so which ones should i got with???
I am all for poke if it matches and if you put really stretched tires on (215's on an 8.5").
SOooo.... to make the rear stick out and match the front, you're gonna need a really big spacer. The fender can accommodate a 9.5" wheel at that offset so 25mm is about that same width. However, if the front is poking half an inch, a 25mm will not make the rear poke that much, and it might look weird. You'd need more like a 35mm spacer in the rear.
According to my terrible calculations, maybe someone else can tell me if I am way off base here? Am I right in my assumption of where the fenders are? On my 8.5" supermeshes the fronts were pretty close to flush at 8.5".
It would not look funny if the rear was spaced at 25mm if the front wasn't really poking. Are you sure the wheels are not available in an 8" or 7.5" width for the front? Or alternatively if you can get a 9" or 9.5" or 10" for the rear.Last edited by Kor; 07-20-2005, 10:33 AM.KR

Re: Adapters??
I still get confused a little with this (when taking into account wheel width), but as for offset, if those wheels are 37mm if you put 20mm adapters on that makes your new offset 17mm which is quite a bit off from stock. I can't speak to MK4's but I think you might be outside the fender (i'm almost outside on the front of my MK3 with a 7" wide 27.3 offset).
If they'll fit under the fronts then the rears are no biggy, but Kris has a point that you'd want to try and go wider in the back to match it up. That's one of the things i'd like to fix on my car. I actually thought about buying 10 or 15 mil spacers but that's just to many things bolted to each other.
Edit, on second thought (mk4 guys can pipe in) MK3 guys have run up to a 20mm offset without rolling th fenders (on 7 or 8" wide wheels) and I would think a MK would have more room.
Edit2: my adapters were around 450 for all 4 to give you an idea, I had to wait a bit for them though, but they were worth it, a lot nicer than some of the "custom" ones. The price could be different for 5x112 but thought that would give you an idea.Last edited by Tuna; 07-20-2005, 11:05 AM.Jay

Re: Adapters??
i'm actually so cunfused as to what you 2 are talking about i'm a wheel newb!!! but i know that if i did need to run spacers in the back, instead of boltingthe spacers up to the adapters if i use extra long wheel bolts i can use those plate spacers where bolting isn't required. is what i want to do even safe??

Re: Adapters??
Yeah the offset would be 17 with an 8.5 inch rim, I think this may give you problems up front but it will be close. The back should be fine so you might even want to go 25mm in the rear but I would be a little concerned about the front as you are adding about an inch of width and your 20mm of adapter. Of course half the width will move inwards to the suspension so I would estimate that they would stick out about 31mm over a stock wheel
Not sure if that would work, I believe Simon L runs 8.5s up front with a 30 Offset and he is pretty tight to the fender. I think that running a staggered setup would be better.Blair

Re: Adapters??
so are you thinking i should run 8.5's in the back and 7's in the front, i don't mind the staggerd set up i think its pretty sweet. the only problem is i don't know if i can find those rims in a 7 inch. yea kris i think i'll go with 25, adapters in the rear and if its not wide enouch i can always throw on spacers later. WOW this adds up fast!!
