  • Anyone know

Anyone know where to get a pair of those metal thingies people sometimes use to hold up a front splitter? Not sure I can describe them better than that, if someone knows what I mean, maybe post a pic or something and some info.

I'm thinking about removing the two vertical pillars that break up the Caractere front "mouth" on my Jetta to make more room for a FMIC. However, even if I fit the FMIC I don't want the bottom of the bumper to sag... trying to think outside the box, maybe come up with an original solution.

Edit: I wonder if I glue or screw the bottom of the bumper to the bottom of the FMIC...

    Something like this? (quick sketch):

I could make a pair of those up pretty quick. I was thinking rod end bearings to allow for alignment, but any kind of eyebolt treaded into the end is no prob.

    Aluminum, stainless, whatever.

          Re: Anyone know

Whoa.. one minute you're selling the bumper, the next you are keeping it and throwing on some supports....
I know you already have the fmic.. but wouldnt it be easier to get one that fits your bumper a little better? I went and saw your other post with a pic of your bumper...

Im not sure if your bumper would hold up with only support if you cut out the side bars.. I would think the current bumper would provide enough flow to the fmic, and you could always do some trimming to make the main opening larger. Is there a bumper on the market with that much bigger opening?

            Re: Anyone know

the new reiger rs4 stuff has huge openings for that stuff kris it may do the trick

i think the issue is mark that his caractere bumper has a inward downward slope to it so a fmic will fit but not at the bottom kinda deal..

Ahhhh. I see what you mean now...you need a bumper that either goes straight down or outwards. I had a few too many drinks last night at BEP to understand things this early in the morning.
In this case, I think it would be easier to get a bumper that is a little more FMIC friendly..

                  No problem, let me explain...

The bumper was almost $1000 all-in, so you can see why I am reluctant to sell it and buy another. I also don't really much want any of the other bumpers out there. Moreover, in the sales post I clearly say its a feeler and I am not sure if I am selling them, I was just wondering if there was anyone serious about buying and want to gauge how much people think its worth. Yes, if I absolutely have to, I *will* get a new bumper.

I am already looking at trimming it but it looks like I might have to trim it totally down to a giant hole! Thus the supports so it won't sag in the middle.

Getting a new FMIC is also easy to say but after being severely raped on shipping it has cost me quite a lot and I am going to lose money selling it and buying another. Moreover, it was dinged by UPS and so its not in mint condition any more and so its going to be hard to sell it to someone who wants a brand new looking piece, since there is a dent in the top.

So really I would like to make things fit but if its physically impossible then one of the two has to go and I am out many hundreds of dollars :(

This is how I would probably have to trim it to MAYBE make it fit, but it STILL might be too big:

And if I did that it would sag, so this was my idea. But now I think it would be better to just attach the lower part of the bumper to the bottom of the FMIC to add support.

                        Re: Anyone know

Are you going to put some kind of grille in front of the FMIC? You could make that out of something somewhat stiff, which would hold up the bottom if it was attached properly to the top and bottom.

BTW, what is the FM in FMIC? I get that the IC is intercooler (I think). Quick google search didn't answer it for me.

I don't think a grille will work, I have room for less stuff not more stuff!

                              FM =Front Mount

I see your point with the "keeping what you have" but at the same time..if you did choose to hack up your current bumper, and it still didnt work you would not only be out the money for a new bumper, but you would also not be recieving cash from your old one.
Looking at price comparisons, I would think it would be cheaper to get a new IC core then it would be a bumper, but that depends on how much you get for your old bumper vs old IC core. I personally think it will be easier for you to get decent cash for your IC core then your bumper, espcially with the cash you put into your bumper already and you stated that you didnt like any others on the market.

Throw both on market, and see which one is grabbed first.. My guess is the core would go quickly on Beyond...
