Re: Going to the darkside- Maybe

hahaah i've got half or MORE of those things wrong with my car bu t you dont see me tradin it back

Peeling armrest? Pfft, common. No biggie.

Mirror housing? mine is so loud it actually was able to drown out the tire noise of those khumo 712's when the windows were down!

Sidemarker? Mine busted off in a car wash, the little light that attaches to it fell into the fender where it has since resided.

Most recently the track for my passenger seat took a dump. Need to jack it up before I can silde it forward (not the cars fault, but honestly, if they're going to sell them in NAthey should make it so my 300+lb buddy can ride too)

If you're trying to trade back your car, you gotta expect them to try and ding ya!

VW = 10 1/2 months of absolute driving pleasure while using crazy torque to school NA ricers and 6 weeks of head scratching wondering why the CEL won't go out. It sucks when interior components begin to peel etc, but that's VW for you. The engine will pull until you get sick of replacing trim pieces and peripheral components.

I'm not saying that VW is the only choice . . . others make great cars too. That being said, I've gone for rips in Civic SI R's, Corrola XRS's, and Mazda 3's, but they don't hold a candle to my Jetta through the city during acceleration in real-world driving conditions. There's a lot of personal opinion in there, but all my friends - no matter what they drive - always want to go in the Jetta with the windows down to hear the turbo in action and, of course, because it's one fine piece of automotive a$$

I've also noticed that most people who love their VW are, more often than not, people who actually like getting under the hood and tinkering . . . and they alaways know what kind of oil is in the car, etc . . .

If they have "group buys" maybe they'll have "group buybacks" you and B5 can trade yours in at the same time and try and get a better deal. Get yourself a couple of Hondas, or Cobalts.

I wish! The 2004 Consumer Reports for Car and Trucks rates VW on the Negative side for issues etc...

I was just at a Honda dealership tonight , oooh I want a CR-V! i took one for a test drive what a sweet ride. Only problem would have to lease because the lease rates are lower then buying out right rate.

The lease rate is 3.2 %, buying out right with loan for financing 60 months 5.9%

Lease over 48 months @3.2% payments are $450.93 Resideual $13,478 for a LX automatic.

                Lets just say OUCH!

Come on Jason. You don’t need to attack us like that. You don’t sit in the same car like we do and experiencing those problems we hate. I’m sure you will express the same sadness when you drive the same car. It is all about QOS(quality of service) that include parts and service you receive. A groub-buy-BACK? WTF man, what are you talking about? Why would you cheap us out like that?

HONDA/Cobalts? I think I saw Honda build engine competing in F1. Do you see a VW F1 engine? Chev do have decent products too.

I am interested of a new Porsche or MB. Hay Jason, anything wrong with them? Any IMO kind of thing? Do you think they will act any slower than VW to rectify the problems? Will they fix any bugs?

EX. Same brand of parts ex.Sach shocks. One on VW and one on MB. Why the Sach shocks on MB last so much longer than the one on VW? Only God knows why.

Well I think Jason meant that more as a joke then anything since he knows your unhappiness with your Jetta.

Anyway lemons and stuff exist with every car company so some time it is just luck of the draw but you can bet MB is not perfect in fact I have not been overly impressed with my MB dealer so far. Also watch out for Lemon reports and the like as well as they can be funded by certain groups and have recently rated a very small car a no buy after not even driving it but because of the companies financial situation, if thats the case all GMs should be no buys too!

Re: Going to the darkside- Maybe

Ambrose, I'm not "attacking" you, it was a JOKE.

Blairs right, I know how unhappy you are with your car, and Cordialtea is unhappy with hers.

And no, I don't own a MK4, but i've owned a lemon, a 2000 Subaru, it was costing me money and it still had warranty. So what did I do? SOLD IT! I owned it 5 months and lost $2000.

My point is, if you're that unhappy, do something about it. Sell the stupid car and never look back, that's what I had to do. It sure beats complaining about it on a daily basis and beating your head against the wall that you have a lemon.

And yes, Honda builds F1 engines, I know that, but I have no idea what that has to do with anything. My point was that hondas have all the criteria Cordialtea is looking for, as does the new cobalt. Right now the top of the pile for reliability is Toyota/Lexus I believe followed closely buy Nissan/Infinity, they have the top 4 spots. Oh, and if you look down the list......waaaaaay down, you'll see MB, so I don't think going to Mercedes is going to be any better than VW if you're looking to make the change over.

The thing is, it's no secret that VW's have their problems and continually get beat up in things like Consumer guide. Some people say that VW's is a "lifestyle" well so is being a pimp, but that doesn't mean it's for everybody

Cordialtea, good luck on the hunt for a replacement vehicle, luckily for you, VW's still do well on the resale/trade in front.

Honestly Ambrose/Cordial, buy something that you'll like and is going to save you some headaches. I'm not as loyal to the brand as you might think, my current VW came entirely by fluke. had it not there would be a good chance I'd be in a SiR or Focus SVT right now.

                          Seacrest out!

                            ok ive had

                            1.)sway arm bushings went
2.)Rear wiper motor went (this was funny because it would spray to the side... just think of the fun you could have with open windows)
                            3.)rear hatch wouldnt open
                            4.)rear seat wont fold down
5.)Heated seat caught on FIRE! (little to hot for me)
6.)speedo gear in the transmission broke (speedo wasnt working)
                            7.)gas gaudge stopped working
                            8.)stereo buzzes (bad ground)
9.)A/C Heater lights turn of every now and then
10.)window regulators are very loud and getting windows durty
11.)some kind of code showing cat-converter error of some sort they said IF the cel turns on then i should stop driving and call them. they said it might be a glitch in my cars computer... why not just FIX IT?

Im sure theres more i just cant remember them all... lol but like said VW is a way of life. I just dont want THIS one. I was so close to getting that 2005 GLI i wanted.
My signature is so last year...

Its unfortunate that some of you have had such great problems with your VW's. I guess I've been very lucky with all the VW's I've owned. I guess it could also be that I don't hold on to them as long as some of you do. I think Jason is right though. Instead of continuously bitching about how much of a piece of crap you have, do something about it. Keep in mind however that regardless of what you chose to replace it with, there is a lemon in every make. A guy yesterday just bought a new golf and he was telling me about how much of a piece of junk his G35 was! He said he has never owned a worse vehicle and that he has spoken with many more infinity owners that had said the same thing. Needless to say I was a bit shocked!!!

What the heck does that have to do with anything? Anyone and their monkey can build an F1 engine these days or any big motor for that fact. I am sure VW doesn't make one as they already have racing circuits that are ALL VW's.
