  • Headlight frustrations.....plus high beam question

So I bought some new headlights at C1's sale today (30% off!), I've been running around blind in one for a few months now.....I changed the low beams no problem whatsoever, except that inner lens popped loose on my passenger side when plugging in the bulb.....I read on here someone else had that problem too, but I'm taking mine to VW because that shouldn't happen...I hardly pressed on it....THey can deal with it for free, I need my blinker recall done anyhow.... Now, onto the real question, do you have to take the headlight out to change the high beams? They aren't that easy to get to, so I would guess so....And if so, I'm gonna Joey them right away while in the process....I guess I could just fix that lens problem while the light is apart, but whatever! Bart, I know you've changed your bulbs a few times, fill me in on the high beam part...

the whole inner reflector piece is held on to the 'adjuster' screws by a ball joint connection. If it pops out, you just have to 'pull' the inner part back up until it clicks back into place. If you look in close to where the adjuster screw is, you can see what I mean.

Is this in a golf? Unless you've got very girly hands then I'd suggest taking the whole headlight unit out to do the swap. It's pretty easy to do, actually...

The bumper has to come off, but don't let it scare ya

I've had the bumper off a few times, no big deal......I just don't feel like doing it....maybe I'll be more motivated tomorrow....

Did the same thing to my headlights also, tried to cheat by not taking off the lamp assemblies. I think the headlight assemblies were never made right, the knuckles probably weren't seated properly from the factory. After you get it back in the socket, you will also have to re-aim that headlight. Mine headlight aim was off after getting the knuckle back in the socket properly.
