      Re: Auto or Manual TDI

I have an 05 Tiptronic TDI.
I went that way instead of manual because I have had 7 manual vehicles before this one and frankly, I am tired of driving manual.

I find that Calgary is CONSTANT shifting and CONSTANT traffic jams and it will probably only get worse.

Having an auto/tip I can toss it in tip mode if I feel like driving, or put it in auto if I am feeling lazy.
Its also nice to have if you get a phone call on the road, or need to quicky jot something in your PDA (usually while stuck in traffic not driving).

Sure the mileage isn't as good as standard, but the car gets AMAZING mileage anyways.

I definately think if you even have the slightest chance of her triing to learn standard your better off .I found there are not to many girls that don't like to drive standard once they know how. Having owned a couple automatics in my younger days I have grown to hate them. And now owning an 04 TDI manual after it being chipped is almost as fun to drive as my old Talon TSI AWD with almost 3 times the fuel economy. Best of luck on your purchase hopefully you can swing the manual!

Meh. My GTI is geared such that I can do 110 km/h in 2nd gear. If I am doing something else or in crappy traffic and don't feel like rowing for whatever reason I'll just toss it in 2nd and leave it there.

A set of lightweight pulleys would add enough low end to make the 2nd start much smoother.

Haha 110 in second is insane!
Tiptronic also shifts for me a bit before redline if I am too busy or forget that it is in tip and not auto.
