  • Dented oil pan

So I took the car in for an oil change today, & the SA said that my oil pan was dented. It is not leaking, & not cracked but I was like wtf? The SA was not able to say how badly it was dented.

Should I be concerned, or does it warrant replacing?

Alum or steel oilpan? I saw some nasty pictures of a cam shaft split to pieces from a dented oil pan on the TDIclub last night so I would see how badly it is damaged. On the other hand if it is dented and alum but not leaking the dent can't be all that bad.

Not sure what the pan is made of. Car is 2003 1.8T if that makes any difference.

Cam shaft?? Oil pan?? the two aren't related! Unless of course (and I'm sure this is what you meant....) crank shaft....

I wouldn't be too concerned. Stock pan on '03's is a soft one, so if it's not cracked or leaking I wouldn't be overly concerned. Get under that car and take a pic for us!

My old 2.0 mk4 had a dented oil pan from driving on dirt roads and from being low. It was fine to drive around with, I did for over a year. But when I went to sell the car, they wouldnt safety it with a dented pan.
