  • did maf cleaning today

cleaned the maf today on a pd130 passat... its like getting chipped! good as new, and pulls hard to redline now. up hilly roads in 2nd the ASR kicks in.

to do this, you need a T15 torx security bit, one with a hole in the middle. simply take out the maf, and at the top of it, there is a metal wire, i blasted it with electronics cleaner (isopropyl) in a can, then dried with compressed air and let it sit overnight to make sure it was 100% dry in there.

some pics of a pd130 engine, the turbo is easy to touch on this one

Where can you get the T15 torx security bit? I am pretty sure either my MAF needs cleaning, replacing or I am in need of new vaccum hoses...
(Code 17536 --Lean Code) I figure I might as well clan the MAF first, as it is most likely the cheapest option.. My car has been stalling upon start up, but then is OK when warm, but also seems to build boost very slowly

I got my bit from auto value in midnapore. I had to buy the whole set to get it though. I thinks it was aroung 30 bucks for the set

You can skip the torx bit if you have a set of vice grips. Just grab the outer lip of the screw, and slowly turn it! Yeah, you may scuff the paint off the screw, but it works just fine

Good write up, Bart. I need to do this myself.

Think you can use alcohol (91%?) as well?
