Question about dealer services!!

My car is due for a 48 000 km service. If i remember correctly, its a pretty pricey service ($600 ish). The thing that bugs me is that it seems alot of the stuff they do during a service is BS. They seem to just inspect lots of stuff. My question is, whether everyone goes to get these services done, or what others do.

I think I either went in a few thousand K early or late, and had them do the previous service (again) or the subsequent service, basically skipping the expensive one...

I agree most of what is done at a service is BS. Especially since a lot of it I don't WANT done and can't really opt-out of... like wheel rotation as an example.

Per the "Owner's Manual", does opting out of a service not hamper warranty?

48,000K is a B Service which costs $107.99 on a VR6 (unless I am using an old Service Schedule)

64k is the big one... 48k should be a regular service...

anyhow... one word of advice is to call all the dealerships and see what their prices are... in Toronto... the range for the 64k service varied by over $200 from dealership to dealership...

Ya, the last full on servive I did was 64k...was pricey...the next one to get done will likely be the 100k/timing belt but thats gonna be pricey too :(

The pricey one (D Service) occurs at 64000km, and 128000km.

OR you can just ask to skip the stuff you dont want on their list and not pay for them.... just a thought i dont think thats too hard to do. stupid crap like rotating tires and checking crap say you did yourself, they'll still stamp your warranty book.

Not to mention doing the fuel filter, oil change, etc. isn't rocket science, doesn't take a lot of time, etc. You can save money by doing it yourself.

I haven't done an official scheduled check yet. I look at the list and then get them to change/check stuff I think makes sense, and do filters/tires self.

Last service I asked them to check suspension and steering, change oil and put in that syncromesh. Next check will be rear brakes and probably a fluid flush.

yea me too geoff.. my 48k i had them change the oil thats it.. i still haven't changed my pollen filter but i have to one of these days.. before i park it this fall i'll change the oil again.. flush tranny fluid and flush antifreeze me thinks

nothing better than only putting 8k on my car for 1 summer

I agree most of what is done at a service is BS. Especially since a lot of it I don't WANT done and can't really opt-out of... like wheel rotation as an example.

you can opt out of whatever you like... services are billed by what is done.
but don't complain when your tires vibrate or you have a lack of cockpit air
circulation because your pollen filter is plugged.
it's cheaper to get everything done at once than seperatly..
the most important is having your oil changes legally documented for factory
warranty..
