      Re: Mintex Red Brake pads

Nurburgring is awesome. It is only a 30-40 minute drive from wher I currently live to get there. I have been out there twice now to drive on the track. The first time it was just a casual ride as i was not even complete with my break in period. This last time was a little harder drive as you can tell but it is always fun. It is so long and there is so many turns you can not memorize it easily. I recomend GT4 for all of you not being able to come over here. It is fairly accurate the only bad part is that you cannot experience the elevation changes as they actualy are on the track. This last time I bought a 5 lap pass so I plan on using it up before the end of the season. If my brakes can handel it.

Also about the lack of information about brakes, I definatly agree Just take a look at EBC's site there is only a small paragraph about each type of pads they carry and they don't even cover the same information for each pad type. Hopefully the yellow stuff "R" pads will meet my needs for the time being until the money for the big brake kit comes.

the Red Box pads are not meant for track use. It is pretty much true that any pad that stops good on the track is going to create a lot of dust and chew up pretty quickly. especially with the slotted rotors.
when it comes to brakes you really cant have you cake and eat it too. you get good stopping, low dust, long life. pick 2 of those and thats how it stands.
if you plan on tracking your car hard, especially on a track like the ring which is very demanding on the brakes, and you plan on doing this regularly i would plan on getting a ceramic pad. you said you were going with the ECS upgrade kit, i assume the Porsche 996 turbo ones or at least the boxster kit. the 996 Kit has the option of ceramic pads, and after being in a friends ride with just the porsche 996 turbo brakes and a good set of brakes and tires i can tell you they STOP!

150-50 on the I5 on a dime. did this a few times in quick succession and no brake fade or smoke.

if you are looking for a good place to get a brake kit check out pgperformance.com, speak to mike he is running the kit on his 24V.

Thanks for the info I am getting the ECS kit still I don't rally like hte kits on the site you referenced. I will be getting the ECS stage 2 version 1 kit it includes Audi TT 225 hp rotors with Porsche Boxter 4 piston caliapers, I will be opting for the 2 piece rotors, along with their rear brake kit that uses the stock caliaper but with bigger 2 piece rotors. My big concern with a brake kit is that I need a kit that I can still run 16in wheels in the winter.

i recently purcahsed and installed the EBC yellow stuff pads on my car. They work great I have even autocrossedon them once now and they worked great. I have still not been back to the ring yet since the new pads. I have been trying to get back but every time I want to go the weather is not coperative.

how can you not like the kits on the PG performance site?? they are directly out of the 996 porsche Turbo. cant really say no to 13 inch drilled rotors and 6 pot calipers

that is not the problem I love the actual brakes however I have the little issue of running 16" wheels in the winter to worry about. ECS actualy carries a simmilar kit that is cheaper than the PG kit by about $400 US. Both don't allow you to run 16" wheels. 17" snow tires are just so expensive!

my buddy just swaps his stock calipers back in for the winter. takes a little extra to do, but saves you a ton of cash and when you want the big brakes they are there.
