  • Please Recommend a Skid plate for a MKIV VR6

Well, I've already lost one VR6 and I'm not going to loose another...

Please recommend a skidplate that I can purchase and have installed locally, I'm only aware of the DieselGeek one which if I remember correctly was around $300 US.

Any pros/cons appreciated...yes I've searched the archives but I'd like some local opinion.

    Thanks!

The metal skid plate is virtually indestructable. I would spend the dough on that.

I want one too so if you want to revive the skidplate group buy we were setting up we might be able to get a better deal. And can always have someone take a road trip down to the border to pick them all up and save shipping (see other UPS thread).

I didn't lose an engine but I did pay 500 bucks for an oilpan - and that was not lowered.

First off this has been covered. Now the best place is Evolution imports in prince george. Save duty and boarder hassels and just buy one from him. Mine was just over $300can (group buy), easy to install and has saved my @$$ already once.

I had a local shop build one for my Beetle. They used a high density poly type material which they have used on their Rally car, however it was a bit thinner then they used for rallys. They fabricated it and installed it on my bug for $300 cdn. I was pleased with it, here is the site www.anwaltinternational.com, I think the link is under the Fabrication section.

I'm in for a group buy, let's figure out what the best one is...my interest is in an Aluminum one that is easy to remove for oil changes so I don't pay shop rates out the yinger every time I get my oil changed.

That said, I've nothing against a composite one if they're good...

doesn't look like we quite have a group buy...how many do we need? 5?

So the 1/4inch Tivar (poly based material) from www.anwaltinternational.com would be 300$ installed and maybe cheaper if we do a group buy from them? Does anyone know if this or aluminum would be better to go with?

Personally I would say aluminum, atleast you can beat dents out of it.

I'm going with the diamond 3/18th metal. The oilpan breaks when you hit potholes etc - needs to be bloody strong. Rally plates are more to prevent debris from flying up into the bay (also bad). For the price I'd take metal over plastic, and it has a hole for the oil drain if you pay the 20 bucks to drill it.
