  • Thinking of an alarm . ..

There were a bunch of break-ins in my work parking lot last week, so I'm gonna break and get an alarm installed. I don't know much about them, so I'm hoping that somebody can point me in the direction of some reputable companies. I don't know how much I want to spend, but if a higher price means more peace of mind, then so be it.

I'm not at all interested in a remote starter/alarm - just an alarm with two way FM paging and some sort of rolling code. I've read that some Viper models are 'fail safe', meaning that they won't freeze up your car if something glitches That sounds good . . . if it works.

I'd spend more time with my girlfriend, but she's only naturally aspirated.

Not really much to add, but since you asked in another thread, I have the compustar which you can get without the car starter module. It's expensive, mainly for labour. Call audio concepts mobile and ask how much for just the alarm module on a 2000+ jetta, should give you a ballpark.

If you want 2 way paging, you need one with huge range (compstar, possibly viper), otherwise why bother?

Personally if you don't want a car starter, I'd search on vortex for adding a shock/motion sensor to the factory alarm, that way you can keep your standard fob and know that the thing will go off if someone opens the door.
