  • TDi boost gauge install....

i'm thinking about installing a boost gauge in my TDi tonight now i've looked at a couple DIY's and it looks easy enough to do. i have 2 questions though. how the hell do i remove the A-Pillar? it has an air bag in it so i disconnected the battery, but i can only get it half way off there seems to be a crazy clip holding it on. and secondly do i just drill into that black box sitting to the left of the motor? call me a noob but i believe its the upper intercooler piping. any help would be appriciated thanks guys.

Yes, you drill a hole on the hard black plastic tube.

A pillar gauge mount? I don’t know. Wooo…Will the airbag explode then shoot the gauge to your balls?

nah it won't the airbag deploys like a foot and a half from where the gauge is mounted

BTW what psi does a stock TDi run? and does it change if your chipped?

What I would do is have a metal insert made, cut the black rubber tube leading to the "black plastic box" upper intercooler pipe, and then insert it and clamp around it with hose clamps. I don't much like drilling into that kind of brittle hard plastic. If it cracks or something, you're fubar.

There is no room to add anything because right after the plastic there is a rubber elbow then the EGR. I would recomend removing the upper intercooler pipe when drilling and tapping it as nothing would be worse then sucking that crap into your motor.

yea umm finally just gave up!!! couldn't find a hole in the firewall, i'm too scared to drill into that plastic pipe, and the F'ING A-Pillar is a pain in the @$$. the clips are called B!tch clips for a reason. hahaha so overall it was a failure maybe i'll try again tomorrow. but at least i got the light hooked up and working!

I heard the stock is around 14psi and spike up to 18 psi. Never know caused I installed the gauge after I chipped.

Mine are auto Up chipped. Hold onto 18psi 3rd gear and spike up to 27 psi.
