Mine will only go off with a good whap to a window - yet a Harley with straight pipes will set off the warning warble. And that's a pretty high end sensor. Our old one was horrible for any big vehicles driving by.

As for protection - I bought a garage to protect my car, so I guess an alarm isn't a big deal. If you're complaining about society in general being evil and having to protect your car, I agree - but if you're complaining because you think it's something VW should have done, I say suck it up princess. Piece of mind for me is worth more than new lights.

Well after all the garble I found out what the mystery part was. It's the trim that fits below the heater controls just above the center console. Why that fell out, no one knows....

How about a Metal strip on the door handles connected to four or so batteries out of a industrial diesel engine

Smash window, unlock door ... then Zappo!!!

          OR

Tie a lead from the arm rest through your console to a sawed off shot gun under the car ... Blammo!!! no legs O'

Sorry, I have a twised mind

Alarm is getting installed right now. So expensive it hurts. :( The alarm itself isn't bad ($280), the but the no-frills install (I opted not to do a car starter) is $380. They said it was because of each door on a Jetta having its own sensor module. Oh well, hopefully it'll be deterrent enough for the future.
