  • Coilovers or Springs??

    Hey guys...
I'm currently deciding whether I should get coilovers or springs. Is the coilover ride better than the spring ride? If I go springs, should I necessarily get new shocks as well? I'm plannin' on about a 1.75-2" drop. If coilovers are that much better, the only reason I'd get springs is price factor. Help...please?

most people on this forum have the H&R cupkit, i believe. and from what i've heard its great suspension, better then coils. I'm sure boy racer (simon) can get you a set

I built my own Cup-Kit that cheap springs + Bilstein Sport. LOL. Any way, ppl satisfied with the x-brand cup-kit simply because of the acceptable lowering height of the car and the hassle free maintenance. The first is what sells people. There is nothing one-sized-fit-all and nothing better than one or another. You might be able to find out the mystery by providing enough money.

hey guys. Yeah, I'm definitely a DIY guy, so I'm most likely installing and can maintain everything myself. My budget will be dictated by what I decide. I just need to decide if I should go with the $300ish or more lowering spring kit, or the $1500ish coilover route. The thing that draws me to the coilovers is the fact that if my fenders aren't as tight to the tires as I want them, I can probably just lower the perches a bit more to get the look I want. I'm going with 19's (not sure which yet), and I most likely will just paint the valences for now (no body kit for a while). Hope this helps. Does anyone know anyone with, or know anything about FK Highsport Coilovers? I know Concept 1 sells 'em.

FK coils are good, stiff, but good.

www.amimotorsports.com sells them, and is a forum sponsor. I suggest talking to them before going to c1.

I have heard that most coil kits are very, very stiff. I don't know if this can be adjusted at all either. Also, coilovers require alot of upkeep, especially during our winters. I think they can seize up pretty easily if you don't maintain them, which would cause the coils not to move. Then they are pretty much useless and the exact same as springs!

I have FK coils... I love them, but smarty39 is right about the seizing. One of my coils is totally useless now after siezing up. if I had it to do over again I would probably go with an H&R Cupkit.

Actually I think Autotech is taking over. I'm pretty sure we outnumber the FK AND the H&R guys!

Well I really like it, it handles really well but isn't too harsh. As for Cost, well if you order it through Simon L it's quite reasonable, it should really cost a fair bit more. So far I know for sure....

I know there are more though. Anyway, it's really worth looking into. The fact that they use a really good shock (sachs) is a big plus also.

Good to know...I'm just praying for a summer bonus this year and the car is getting a face lift....I am running H&R sport springs and stock struts....which i believe is ready to give out soon.....

How much of a drop does the H&R cupkit give? What about Autotech? Also, where can I get these kits and how much do they run?

I THINK the Autotech kit is 650 + GST from EUTuning (boy racer here on the boards)

I THINK the H&R kit is around 850 or so (also from EUTuning)

And there is also the FK cupkit for I THINK James said his was 610 from AMI

I would say you can expect a bit over 2 inches drop from all of them.

In members rides look under Boyracer (H&R), Silverfire (Autotech), and J'aime ta femme (FK)

                          That should get you started.

Ya, it was $610 shipped from ami. Great deal and im pretty happy with the kit. Ive got the 55/40 and nismodrifter here on the forums got the 35/40 kit..personally Im glad I went with the lower as my car sits perfect for a daily driver IMO, let me dig up a pick of my car on the stock 15s to give you an idea of the ride height.

edit - Well pics of my car on 15s are broken from imageshack. This will sort of give you an idea of the wheel gap, not a great picture, but a great opportunity to whore my car again today

Here is a couple pictures of the Autotech Suspension from a couple weekends ago. The before pictures are the VW Sport Suspension. I went from a 4-5 finger gap to 1-2 finger gap and the ride is really nice. It has settled a little bit more than what is show in the pictures.
