    Jetta is cursed

    I was on my way out to the grocery store before heading to work today when, on my way out of my building's garage, one of the guys working on the building dropped a hammer on my hood and fender from three stories up. Not a whole lotta damage, but at least a few hundred for paint. THEN, on my way home, the same crew was blocking the entry to the same garage. so, I go to back up and CRUNCH!!! Right into a farking minivan. This was all my fault and now i'm left with a couple of small gouges in my bumper. **** - what a day.

    That blows man! Hopefully not too much damage to the minivan, don't need to by paying to fix that pile!

      Get the body shop to cut you a deal for the bumper when you get the hood fixed I would expect the hood and fender to cost about $600 though as small dings are very hard to get out.

        Get a Golf fender and hood, then you just need headlights and a bumper and another fender for the swap!

          Haha, that same thing happened to my Dad's 7 series at his work...Cept he was inside and the guy who did it obviously didnt stick around

            Nah . .. minivan is fine. The lady didn't seem to care and just drove off.

            My hood on the other hand, while it looks alright from a distance, has two small and deep gouges where the back of the hammer hit. Luckily the handle hit first. The fender has crazy impact marks from the hammer handle and there's also one on the hood. I told the guy up front that I wasn't kidding around because I've gone through this song and dance before. I politely told him that if he dicks me around in any way i'd sue right away - no messing around. My super says that the property management company will pay for the damages and then go after the contractor for compensation. I don't care who pays so long as it's not moi.

              Estimate to fix my hood is $432. There's no dent, just two small gouges in the paint that go to the metal, but the whole thing needs to be repainted so it doesn't look like a$$.

              How much do CF hoods go for? Are we talkin' $700 or $1500? It'd be a little out of place on my otherwise stock car, but it is functional in that it weighs a lot less than the OE.

                And besides, the rest of the car will eventually catch up so it's all good! (a bit more justification for ya in case you were looking for it)

                  Ok,

                  So, the hammer dropper is now refusing to pay. I'm going to talk with the property management company Monday. If I don't like what they have to say, I'm suing him and the landlord for allowing a contractor to work on the building without insurance and a barrier, etc . . . My construction friends tell me that the current set up (of which I have photos) is unsafe.

                  I told the contractor that I'd register a lien with Revenue Canada. I'm getting paid one way or another. I also told him that I was going to photograph him working on the building and send the pics of his shitty set up to the powers that be.
