Paint day...

Well not really paint day but I am going to setup the time and explain what I want done. I have spent a lot of time surfing around VW sites looking for ideas as I am now unsure of what I want to do to the car. (last post about my 2 tone paint I swear! )

Two tone…
Boser…
Shave everything…
Shave the trunk…
Keep the stock wing…

What do you guys think would look good? Suggestions!

really starting to move away from the 2tone and go for a very clean cut look, shave the bumper... keep it simply, like jason said I think the 2 tone could get old

2 tone - Cool, as long as the colours work together.
Boser - Cool, BUT I think you need to do something about your front end first. I think either the grill or the lights has to go. I think that mesh grill is too busy with those lights, and I don't think it will look good behind a boser.

By "shave everything" what are you shaving?
Shave the trunk -cool
keep the stock wing - cool, or you could copy the Vortex guys and cut down the mounts so it sits lower on the deck. Or do a Corrado spoiler but I personally think it's a bit too pricey for what it is.

you do realize that shaving the sidemouldings on a mk3 is virtually impossible right, the way they are designed its gonna be extremely tough to get them super flat like they are on my car now. most you could probably do is fill in the ruts on either side of the strip all the way.

shaving trunk, yes thats good.

but why not get really nice wheels instead, unless you already have them? two tone only looks really good on a balls-out car with everyone else done in my opinion

It could work, but I think you'll need to play with the lines a lot, especially if you're thinking Boser and stuff. I also think you're not really going for an "old school" theme so it might look off.

Shaved side mouldings are really hard to pull off on MK3's as they can look like big bubbles.

Simon, they aren't impossible to shave, they just can't be "filled" like yours will be, the metal has to be cut and welded in (like your side markers), but requires a lot of metal due to the size. But I agree they aren't nearly as easy as a MK4.

But just to let you know, I was quoted 1200 a side to shave mine (2-door, less work) and I think that would have got me a crappy job for that price. Expect around 1500, plus that's not the area you were going to 2 tone so that would have to get resprayed as well.

My thoughts: Do not shave the sides, does not usually look very good on mk3s, especially Jetta's and not worth the coin as it is a lot of work. I would do the boser, a subtle boser will be a classic look and can be made to work with your car, but maybe a grill change is in order. I like the idea of shaving the trunk and cutting down the stock spoiler, and if you still have coin left get the front bumper filled and smoothed

Well thats what I think anyway, oh and no 2 tone just keep it clean, simple and classy and save for some nice wheels!

Well after looking at a lot of different cars I have come to this conclusion on what I am going to do:

Painted door handles
Paint the out side of the grill (keep the center black)
Paint the hood
Get the minor rust removed
Cut down the spoiler
Shave the trunk

And that is it, keep it simple for right now… over the winter will save up for rims and may look at doing new lights with a boser (I am still going to take the boser next meet Blair)

I'm liking your ideas Russell. Clean is always the best IMO! Its funny you posted those wheels because those are the ones I was looking at when I PM'd you about my RC's. Buddy in Van wants to try sell locally before shipping. Plus, without someone buying my RC's I could not afford the RS's. Damn they are nice though!!!!
