  • safe mod to do ?

    Items Needed:
    1 - Hose Connector ~3/4" Diameter
    1 - Needlenose Plyer
    1 - Straw
    1 - Rag
    1 - Engine w/ Throttle Body

    1. Make sure your engine is cool to the touch and open the hood.
    2. Look at your throttle body and the two coolant hoses coming from it.
    3. Think.
    4. Take rag and cover the TB.
    5. Use a pair of Needlenose Plyers and slide the clamps up the hose and remove the hoses from the TB.
    6. After both hoses are removed from the TB, take a straw and blow out any excess coolant from the TB.
    7. Now take the two hoses and connect them with the hose conector.
    8. Use your Needlenose Plyers and move the clamps so they secure the hose over the connector
    9. Clean any excess Coolant
    10. Turn engine on and check for any leaks.
    11. If there are no leaks, go drive and have fun.

**NOTE** This modification should be reversed when the weather turns cooler.

    What was said:

without that coolant line running through the throttle body, the intake air temperatures are lowered, therefore "creating" more horsepower. In all actuality, it's just freeing up some that was already there, which was being taken away due to heightened intake temperatures. Same concept as an intercooler. Doesn't give you any more horsepower, just makes more available that would normally be lost to heat.

Gains would be trivial at best and overall consistancy of operation would be impacted.

Basically there's coolant hoses running into the throttle body (T/B) on the VR6, what they are saying is, you take them off and connect them together and keeping the coolant out of the T/B. By doing this you keep the temp of the t/b cooler and hense get some more power out of as the air entering the engine is cooler.

Sheesh, just becuase it's not a TDI or a 1.8T doesn't mean ghetto mods can't be done on it.

Just asking as there was a long thread on Vortex about how this is old news and everyone has done it.

I was thinking of one of them great new electric turbo kits

The above was a valid question as there is alot of talk about it on Vortex

Definately not a new one, definately safe in warm conditions, definately cheap, the coolant definately does create a lot of heat in the throttle body and manifold, heating air into the engine is definately a bad thing. Only question is how much does it heat.. 1 degree? 10 degrees? But for a basically free mod, why not just do it? I have seen people do more futile things for more effort and money.

Don't worry, that wasn't directed at you. And it was a valid question, I guess people forgot there were engines made before 1999.5

I was just wondering what he was trying to do since all it seemed to be was a cut and paste from some site.
