  • 19" Rims and Rubbing

Just currently joined the website because I'm lookin for feedback and ideas for future mods to my 2002 Jetta 1.8T. As of now I'm looking into buying 19" Chrome rims for it this summer. My only concern is if they rub pretty bad and how much it throws off the speedometer. Any feedback from anyone with 19's would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

doesn't rub at all and I'm dropped a good 1.6"+ all around, one finger gap.
And it won't effect your speedometer much at all, remember that as you increase the wheel size, you are decreasing the sidewall size accordingly to compensate so its all evened out in the end.

just keep in mind with all that chrome, that's really gonna affect your performance, particularly acceleration.

Personally I would say stay away from the chrome. It really only looks good on a few MKIV's, and they are heavy as heck too! Talk to cmsbob about hooking you up, I am sure he can steer you in the right direction.

Not all chrome wheels are heavy, but many are. You just have to be more selective about which ones you get if you go chrome... There are still a lot of good, high end light wheels that come chromed, but they are definitely a higher buck.

So if I don't go with chrome then should I go with a polished rim or what? What style of a rim should I get and how much is a good estimate of what I'd be lookin at. Is an 18" or a 19" rim going to be the best? Any feedback is welcome. Thanks.

No rubbing here unless I'm turned all the way to the stops....

On a MKIV you will want to run with either a 225/35R19 (No rubbing and bang on the right height) or many guys go 235/35R19 for a bit extra beef, but when dumped real low or on the wrong offset rims, they may touch now and again...
