Emissions Workshop Error Message

Hello,

Anyone ever come across this error message (Emissions Workshop) when driving your VW Jetta etc. I recently got this message on my 2000 Jetta GLX. Took it in to my mechanic who is not a VW specailist and he could not figure it out...I know I know..take it to someone who know's VW... just wondering if anyone else came across this error as I do not want to take it to the dealer unless worst case...Any help would be appreciated.

Where did this "message" come from? When you car gets scanned, usually there's an error code to go along with it...

did it cause a check engine light?
