Ultra Diesel?

As I am a new TDI owner, I was wondering what "Ultra Diesel" is. Stopped at a Shell station in Red Deer today and they had regular and ultra. Ultra was 3 cents more per litre? I have heard of higher octane gas, but is this the same with diesel?

Shell Ultra is the same diesel with lubricity additive only, its the same cetane level.

The only "premium" diesel with a more comprehensive additive package is Mohawk/Husky which adds lubricity, increased cetane, etc. But their website is a little vague about exactly how "premium" it is.

Isn’t that fun to mislead by the big guns? 3 cent more on the same 40+ppm diesel. LOL ULSD is a long to go. Not officially become available until 07.

Hey, Ill take the 'preimum' for 3 cents a litre every time, what can it hurt for the couple of bucks it costs me per tank

Not to mention the 94 octane/ ultra diesel husky in sundance is the closest gas station for me now

So it is not worth the 3 cents? When I picked up my car, coking of the intake was mentioned and that a possible solution to this was a diesel additive. Is it worth while to do this? If so, which product?

Stanadyne Performance is the one that I would recommend, although the Lubetec Diesel Conditioner also seems pretty good just based on the dump-it-in-the-tank and see what you get (smoke, acceleration, increased mileage, etc.). Both of these are very concentrated. I've tried a bunch of different ones. Its probably worth trying a bunch and see what you like, no harm in that.

i use powerservice, grey bottle. egr disabled, still buy premium and use additives, still clogs, nothing you can do, put gasoline it in, then it wont clog

I find the best use of Powerservice is to use it to fill your new fuel filter when time to change just to really clean out the system. Because a large bottle of Powerservice is relatively inexpensive, its a wise additive choice for this purpose.
