  • Need Serious Help with Boost Gauge!

    Hi all,

I have had a 42DD A-pillar gauge pod and VDO boost gauge for a while now, and decided to install it tonight before the show this weekend. Well, everything that could go bad....DID! First, I could not get the A-pillar all the way off, but I didn't think that was a big deal so I just kept going. Second, once I ran all the tubing and wiring to the gauge, it would not light up or show any signs of power. I am by no means good with wiring so I am not too suprised about that aspect, but the A-pillar really makes me mad! Atleast if I got that piece of sh*t off, I could set up the gauge and just worry about the wiring after.

Sorry for venting, but I have never had problems with DIY installs before so this is really getting to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and also, if anyone is feeling generous enough to give me a hand before the show, I would be very greatful.

Thanks and sorry again for the long post,
    Kyle

with regards to the a-pillar, just PULL! you've really gotta pull on it hard to get it off. It will snap/crackle/pop on you, but it's just the noise from the plastic clips. They're pretty tough to break! I've yanked mine off a half dozen times and have had no problems. Just pull the a-pillar in the direction "accross" your windshield. Yank on that mofo hard, and it will come off.

With regards to wiring, did you connect it to the outer wires from the dimmer switch? Putting in a boost guage really isn't that hard...

          removing the a-pillar:

The blue-grey wire that goes behind the dimmer switch is the power wire (well, it's variable power. The dimmer control will make it go brighter or dimmer). The orange (or brown) wire is ground:

I think he means that when he did it, he couldn't even get his car to start so don't feel bad.
