Re: Review: Shipping to Sweetgrass Montana

Just make sure you do the math as far as shipping/importing straight to your canadian city versus to sweetgrass (include gas money and your time!). You can get a definitive answer from customs as far as exactly how much it will be to import your item, so that there is no guessing involved.
People often forget that it takes 6-7 hours of their day on a weekend just to drive there so they can save some bucks on brokerage. Personally, to determine if its worth my time to drive to sweetgrass just to save on brokerage fees, i use a basic formula. Do the math by charging yourself out at $30 an hour (thats what I consider _my_ free weekend time to be worth) for 6-7 hours (total time it takes to pick up the items). Include gas money too, then see if its worth your time to get it yourself or just let UPS get the item to your house and deal with the brokerage fees.

The thing is, a lot of peopel spend 6-7 hours of their weekend sitting on their couches watching TV, if you think thats worth $30/hour you're crazy. If you take a nice drive on a sunny day rather than being lazy and watching TV or something like that, then your time is really worth 0 because you weren't doing anything important.

$30 an hour for weekend time? Seriously? You are doing something that saves you money... It was a decent road trip.. and something to do.

A recent UPS brokerage charge.. I bought a Shortshifter from CA.. no idea they shipped it UPS till it was at the border. Cost was $300 cdn for the shifter.. brokerage was $50! Luckily retailer agreed to refund some money because of thier mistake...

          thanks again, Andrew.

i will be doing some math on the items as well. of course it has to be worth it for me to make the trip. the amount i save has to be way more than what it would cost to do the trip. i'll pay a bit for the convenience of it coming to my door but i wont bend over. (which they'll probably make me do!) it only costs me about 45 bucks to fill the truck and i like to drive.

DubSport, if you want anything picked up, i only charge $25/hr on the weekends!!
you probably don't like me because someone else said they didn't lol. <3

UPS Warehouse is only open weekdays, so you wont be able to burn your $30 per hour weekend time. Last time I checked, I did not get paid for my free time.

So, if he goes to MT, and it saves him $100, it takes about 6 hours he is making $16.67 per hour by saving that money.

18" Hyper-silver RS4 reps...it's such a pain finding wheels that fit over the brakes, so I went with the easy choice lol...should look HOT!

Hmm i think someone missed the point. I guess I just really value my free time. Long story short I was able to do the math and found that its not worth it to order wheels from the states, even if shipping to sweetgrass. I just bought new 19" wheels from a canadian source, they arrived in Calgary (from Montreal) yesterday! Don't have to drive 6 hours to get em either, though it was damn tough to find a canadian source that sold these wheels.

/\and how much "time" did you spend looking for such a source? i think, from what i've read, there are obviously pros and cons. for me, it's clearly pointless to drive there to save 100 bucks. but it looks like mostly everyone that has gone this route, has saved a fair amount.

thanks again for the input. both s4's look nice.
