  • Someone broke into Babette

I guess it was only a matter of time. My building has had a lot of problems, but I thought I was relatively safe, since my parking spot is right by the elevator so there's a lot of traffic. They went directly through the driver's side keyhole, probably with a screwdriver or something. ****ing crack whores took my change and that was all. Good thing I never leave valuables in the car. Piece of **** VW alarm. Anyone know how much it costs to get this kind of thing fixed? I'm tempted to just leave my door unlocked from now on. ****!

My parents building was broken into over the weekend and every German automobile in the parkade (VW, Audi, BMW & Mini) was broken into. Mostly just junk change and cds taken so probably kids as in one car they grabbed $6 in change but left a pair of $150 Oakleys, but now everyone needs new locks. Parkades seem to be worse then the street these days...

wtf! germans seem to be able to make unstealable cars, why not unbreak-in'able??
i have the blank lock on my car, (just like your passenger side), only way to break in my car is smash the window and crawl through, or open the door. either way, something thats not going to be quiet.

Totally. Secure parking my ass. Where is your parents' place? I'm down in Mission and we've had a lot of problems. Calgary in general is really bad. I just hope it's not an expensive repair.

I was thinking of doing that. I just don't know if it would result in even more aggravation (and broken windows).

But don't you think that would push them to break the glass? They've broken windows before in my building. Blah.

I would think if it was just a few dollars in change they would leave the windows alone

So sorry to hear about your car.

It will be about $300. The lock is $150 and takes two weeks to be coded. The rest is for the plastic cover (if yours was damaged), painting it and the install.
Unfortunately I know from experience as I have white electrical tape covering my empty keyhole now. My lock is on order but it comes in from mexico.
They broke into mine last week to steal $0.83.
I could unlock my car with a popsicle stick and it would disarm the car as well.

Now I'm parking with my glove box open to help show that I don't have anything in my car.

This happened to me last year, too. I feel your pain, Uval. Incidentally, it seems that these things happen in bunches as my friend's boyfriend had his Golf broken into over in Bridgeland this weekend as well.

Do you recall how much it cost to fix? And yeah, I've heard there were a lot of break-ins over the weekend.

It cost more than I had - around $300 or so. In fact, I still need to get the damn thing fixed! I plugged up the lock with a bunch of puddy that hardened over the winter, so at least no one can get into my car that way now. But I'm screwed when my battery dies in the keyfob!

The break-in at my Moms place was in Bridgeland too but lucky for them they have domestic vehicles and were left untouched.

Man, that happened to me not too long ago. Same deal - go through the lock, get in, find change, go buy more crack. I replaced my driver's side lock with nothing but a blank cover (like $6). It came primed and i painted and clear coated it myself.

On another related topic, I can't believe how much your VW Stealerships want for the blank. What is it, like $25 or something? Maybe my memory is playing tricks on me.
