So I was driving to work yesterday going about 120 on deerfoot and a cop turns his lights on and gets me to pull over right on the middle of deer foot. He then claims that I didnt indicate (which im sure I did) and that he clocked me at 130 (which he didnt cause I had my cruise on) so I explained to him that I had it on and that Im sure I indicated. But he didnt care, so he wrote me two tickets one for going 120 and the other for not indicating, and told me that I was the type of driver they were targeting, the tickets add up to 300 dollars. Then as he handed them off he told me to plead guilty so that I could get a lesser fine. But still I was quite angry, I mean who doesnt go 120 on the deer foot? Arg, well I guess now I can fight all three of my tickets on the 26th. I hate cops but in all fairness these were nice guys just pricks on paper.

The daughter of an RCMP officer once told me that it's actually not "illegal" to not signal, that it's only a recomendation and that they can't fine you. You should look into that (I could be wrong though).JayComment

They could most likely then just give you a ticket for reckless driving, I know they have been advertising a MAJOR summer crack down on “reckless” driving on the Deerfoot. I have seen them working in teams to get speeders, just the other day (Saturday @ 8:00am) One Officer was on top of the 64 bridge (going to deerfoot mall) with a laser gun getting people on the deerfoot, and the other was a down deerfoot (going South) pulling the people that were clocked by the first guy.Last edited by Russell; 05-18-2005, 11:31 AM.2001.5 Audi S4

and this is an big example of why I avoid deerfoot. I say fight the tickets at least to get rid of the demerits. and i always like to ask for the cops name and badge number, just cause i've delt with cops that were such assholes to me and i had done nothing to provoke it.Comment

Asking for the badge number when it is on the ticket is provoking them. If you raise a stink they will remember you and take extra notes about the incident. If you clam up and only say "yes sir" "no sir" chances are greater that you will not stand out and in court you are just another face.Originally posted by Hardy_BoyBarry

I will admit that they are harder on the younger people ... well guys any way, my wife has gotten so many warnings for speeding it is not funny. But telling them off or showing your emotions is not helping your case any (well ... crying might help ... but I doubt it). My dad's friend is deputy chief of the CPS and has given me the advice that if a cop is totally in your face that you should raise a stink. Demand their badge number, commanding officer, how long they have been with the department, question their traffic enforcement technique used, ask who trained them and demand to know the reason for the suspision of pulling you over. He stated more times than not they will back down. Personally I have my doubts about that theory but if a cop catches me in a bad mood I may just have to try it out. But then again I have friends in high places. Use at your own risk!Bryce

Not to be an ass here but you WERE speeding at 20 over, you admited this. Meaning the ticket for speeding is warranted. As for not indicating that will be easilt tossed out of court.
Now all guilt aside, go down to the court house and plead your case. BUT before you do, go and pay 50 bux to have your speedo tested for accuracy. Even if your speedo is 100% accurate, which it is most likley not they will either drop the fine, thepoints or both. Either way you are going to come out ahead.
