I've looked around and I was advised to go for SilverlinePlus Coilovers from Concept One (35mm - 55mm drop). The other choice was a set of H&R coils (45mm - 63mm).

The H&R's cost approx. $400 CDN more than the silverlines. These will just be used for cruising, and will also be used in the winter. I'm not very familiar with silverline, but I'm guessing going with H&R would be best.

One more thing is that I was advised to invest in a front sway bar in order to not to hit my axle when I drop the dub. Is this a necessity?

Any advice would be great cause I'm certainly no expert on suspension.

    Thanks
    Matt - A3

As someone who once owned coil-overs, I'd say forget them and just get a nice H&R cup kit from Simon.

yea matt from my experience most people who buy coilovers that have the same plan as you.. drop.. raise.. drop raise.. never get the chance.. canada is way to harsh and the coils start to seize up on you and you never get the chance to adjust them.. not worth it IMO.. i'd go with a nice H&R cupkit from simon.. best bet for you $

I agree with Ryan. Everyone plans to drop/raise their car, but once you have the coilovers you realize that its a lot of hassle, and that the rapid weather changes (especially in Calgary) make it almost impossible to keep up. Moreover, you will find that you don't need to be all that high most days in the winter, and that our poor roads keep you from going very low in the summer. Finally, many people regret the harsher ride of coils on a VW.

Yea I kept that in mind when thinking about coils.

Like you guys said, its nice to think that you'll drop and raise your car each time, but it might not always happen. Now i'm lost.

I mean a cup kit would cost less than a set of coils....what to do

I may just listen to those wisemen

One more thing, do I need to invest in a front sway bar? Or will I be fine for now?

your a 2.0l if i remember so i don't think you will need it.. may have to search vortex but i'm pretty sure you only need a new front sway if your a vr6 but it would be good to invest in a a rear sway if you can.

If you're not going to be racing and are just using it as your normal daily driver, I'd go with some kind of cup kit also.

You could go with an air suspention.

There was a great post on TDIclub about a guy who spent a ton of money putting on a trick set of coilovers....that stayed on his car until his wife and her friend were driving the car with some hot coffee in hand. Obviously the mega-stiff ride has its limitations for a daily driver.
