i'm thinking i'll give it a shot tomorrow night just to see what it is like. the car's pretty much all stock except for the chip. I have a helmet and everything, and i'm pretty sure the car will pass inspection. but do you need mods like: suspension, different tires etc. to enter? or can the car be stock. And in all your opinions would it even be worth racing because i don't have these mods?

Another thing is do i keep the ESP on while racing or off?
    Thanks

Absolutely go for it, stock or otherwise. You would be surprised what a stock car can do! ESP I would love to experiment a little with, I would say that a novice driver would actually benefit. Now the point at which driver beats electronics intrigues me!??? However, if you always drive with ESP you are learning a different driving style than just using your arms and feet to control the car.

Ya man there are lots of stock cars there. The week I was there there was even a Corrola wagon on snowflakes out there and he was doing quite well.

I think the best thing about watching that night was not once did someone make fun of someone else. Even when a guy totally destroyed a whole line of cones no one said anything, they just ran out, set them back up and went for it.

If I can get a set of wheels off my coworker I'm going to give it a try, but first I have to let my bank account breath a little for a while.

I think AgentNox and I are going to give it a try in a few weeks time. Neither of us have done it before but are both excited to learn. I've been to watch a couple of times, I find it hard to see the track. Anyone have any suggestions so there are no big mistakes?

I would love to try it, but not in my Jetta. I'm thinkin' the Rabbit (or e30 if I end up going that route) would be sweet for auto-x once in a while.

there were 2 rabbits the night I went. They look like they would be a blast to run, they are so small and light.

I actually wish I would have kept my bucket of bolts Scirocco to try it out, that think was such a piece there would have been no worries of crashing/wrecking it, but at the time I just didn't have the space.

You don't have to have any modifications to autox. The only thing I would suggest, is to inflate your tires to near there maximum pressure to avoid rolling onto the sidewalls. Don't be shocked if you get some visible wear on the outside shoulder of the treads.

I've got the older ASR on my car instead of ESP. ASR sucks for performance driving because it just cuts the throttle when you slide a bit. If ESP acts the same way, I'd suggest turning it off.

I don't know how they work the autox at Race City, but if there is time for course walks before it gets started, DO IT. Walk it several times if you can. If they don't give out course maps, then draw one yourself. Get the big picture of the course in your mind then break it up into smaller sections that are easier to remember. Also when you walk the course, look ahead through the next 3 or 4 features so you'll know what they look like and where they are before you try to drive through them. And when you're driving, LOOK AHEAD.

                    Thanks for the tips!

I also saw the two rabbits out there. They fly!

                    Anyone recommend a tire pressure for Pirelli P-Zero Nero 225 45 (40?) 18?

I want to try it as well, but I'm always so nervous that I'll be the idiot mowing down the cones because I forgot the track layout. Won't be there tonight, but probably some time very soon.
Sidewalks are for normal walkin.... aint no room for fancy walkin....

Was lots of fun tonight! Had a bit of a delay getting things started, but got a bunch of runs in. My best time was 67.07 seconds which I've been assured is a great time for my first time out

We should get a bunch of us out next week - you'd be a fool not to!

yea it was a blast! my best time was 48.24 cause i skipped part of the track! but my actual best time was 71.something not so bad in my books for stock hight and mega heavy tires. Thanks Simon, thanks Chris for showing me around the track and giving me some pointers!
