    AAARRRRGGHHHH!!!!
Someone attempted to break into my car between Monday and Wednesday. They totalled my door handle and lock cylinder! This is the same day that I approved a newsletter about safety and security to be distributed to the people in my building (I sit on the condo board). It was a secured underground parkade too. AAARRRGGGHHHH! Fortunately nothing was gone as I had nothing in my car (Except my hidden Phatbox).

Wow that sucks man!! Hope you get the car back together quickly. I'm surprised that there would be no cameras in your parkade though!

From what I have heard from many friends, underground parkades in buildings are actually worse than parking your car on the street, it seems like everyone I know who has underground parking gets broken into.. .

It turns out they got into the car. (I was able to unlock it with my finger!) All they took ws about $0.83 as that was all that was in there. No code for the stereo, and my phatbox was hidden - thank goodness.

On the bright side, nothing is broken, other than the locks etc.

No cameras so the police wouldn't come out. They'll "give you a call in a couple of days and do things over the phone".

I sit on my condo board, so cameras will be a topic of discussion.

urgh! I'll see you Saturday Derek. I'll be coming in to have it fixed. In the meantime, my car is down south in a friend's garage.

Yup, it's so easy to sneak in to those. When I lived on University Drive they had underground parking under all the buildings in the complex. While I lived there 5 cars were stolen in 1 NIGHT!! Plus several were broken into (my friends being one of them). The other thing is it was owned by Boardwalk (MAN THEY SUCK!!) so sometimes the doors would break or get stuck open and it would take them weeks to get them fixed so people had free access to a dark, secluded area to be all alone with 50 some cars.

It's $150 for the lock, $20 for the cap, $30 for paint, plus installation.

How did you get it so cheap??!

Yeah, I was just taking it to its new temporary home as it will be a few weeks before I get a new lock.

H and I don't typically drive in separate cars though.

Sorry to hear about your troubles . . . same thing happened to me in my underground parking lot about a month ago. I decided not to go for a new lock cylinder - if they want in, they'll get in. I just spent $5.95 on a new cap (a solid one from the rear door) and painted in myself. I asked VW if there was any way to disable that stupid feature that makes your windows roll down and they said 'No dice'.

It's too bad the bastard messed up your handle . . . mine wasn't damaged at all (well, hardly).

It's a good thing that our cars a on the hard side to actually steal because they're a cake walk to break into.

Sorry to hear it happened to you as well. (And others recently too!) It turns out the handle isn't broken, just the plastic cap part.
I don't have a rear door and am not sure if the cap from the passenger side is compatible. I don't have power windows, so that's not an issue.

I wonder why there is such a difference in part prices though. It's $20 for my plasic cap plus paint ($30).
