    Re: The time has come!

    Wow lots of information here

Okay well I want to make 250ish whp or more, and I want my 1/4 mile times in the low 13's I dont know if this is a valid time since I dont know much about feasible 1/4 mile times on our powerplant. And of course something that fits into my budget most importantly.

Yeah. . . With the GT28RS kit I would install it and sit on it for a while then install the new fueling method, ecu tuning, and 440 injectors cause i couldnt afford all that right away, and with the stage 3+ its just too expensive, but the stage 3 fits into my budget (barely) and i would have to get the install done somewhere else then c1 I guess. I donno. . . would it suit my needs you guys think? the stage 3?

Concidering Disturbo ran a 14 with 326whp and bad rubber you may be hard pressed to put your car into the low 13's. His car is also way lighter due to a carbonfiber hood and trunk.

so maybe mid 14's is a more realistic time, I think that the hp goal is pretty attainable tho like 250ish. I think im leaning towards the Stage III right now.

            Re: The time has come!

I have the APR kit, and I wouldnt trade it for anything. however I did not purchase it brand new, so I didnt pay the intial cost. But it has been running flawlessly since I have had it (bout 1 year) besides me being stupid and not changing the plugs enough. I would personally prefer to pay a bit more, and have less headaches down the road. You dont need APR's exhaust, but you do need an exhaust

If you are in Calgary, I'll take ya for a ride sometime...but keep in mind I have quattro, so there is more Drivetrain loss, and more traction!

              Re: The time has come!

I have put about $4500 CAD into my turbo setup so far, not including installation or programming/tuning, just buying parts and piling them up in my basement. I would say its pretty tough to do it for < $5000. The APR kit would have been less of a headache, and at least I would have the peace of mind of knowing that it will work properly in the end.

However, designing the system yourself has other advantages, and is more fun.

                    Re: The time has come!

I would say you should give yourself up to 2 months for waiting for delivery, and then maybe 1-2 weeks for installation if you can afford to do it all, and depending on what you need done.

                      Re: The time has come!

Delivery would depend on the vendor you are going thru. If you really try hard, Im sure you can find someone across North America with one in stock.
As for 1/4 mile times...I ran a 14.9 on pump gas last year with a crappy 60ft time...
If you do go the APR route, as a bonus you can join the Stage 3 forum as well! There are quite a few knowledgable people on their that can ehklp with just about anything

                          Another question guys,

I called around and talked to some people about the stage III, and Ive heard many mixed things. People keep telling me to stay away becuase of the durability issues, and to build my engine first. What do you guys think?

I suppose it's all in who you talk to, but after hearing all the research Kris (kor) did on his turbo project and a couple others. I'd honestly trust their opinion. Perhaps the "people" you're talking to aren't all that familiar with the 1.8T or maybe they don't realize your engine is already turbo'd (i've had people ask me what the "T" stands for on VW's). Not trying to discredit, just saying.

I think it depends on which stage 3, and what programming you use. I have 140,000km on my APR stage 3, and been without problems. The ATP stage 3 would be the APR stage 3+ (GT28rs) so keep that in mind, and ATP's programming isn't as good as APR's. APR does reccomend building your engine with Stage 3+ though....

                                Okay,

Well a friend of mine thinks that I should get my car ported and polished, and then throw a custom kit on there. It sounds pretty good from how he explained how porting and polishing worked. . . Im so confused now tho as to what i should do. Im waiting for a call back from CWS tuning, and Diablo Performance in red deer to see what they have to say. So many options!
