  • The time has come!

    hey guys,

Its been a while, but Im glad to say the time has come. Im ready to upgrade the turbo kit in my car and Ive been doing a lot of research but cant find much useful information. But Im deciding between the GT28RS hardware kit or the Stage II kit from C1. Any one have any suggestions? I want to stay within the 5500-6000 dollar mark for the turbo and intercooler and install. Lemme know

    Thanx

I got super busy with work and school and everything. It was a big year for me in reguards to marks, I had to get my GPA up so my life suffered. It was sad, but now Im back!

personally if your willing to spend.. buy the APR stage3 or 3+ and you'll be much happier.. it'll run perfectly right out the install and you won't have to tweak anything

i saw a video of a guy on vortex who installed his own stage3+ and used the APR home programmer to flash his ECU.. his car started FLAWLESSLY first go and didn't hiccup once!

well I was working a couple jobs, and hardcore studying, pretty much dropped out of the scene for a long time. But its good to be here agian :d

Hey Ryan, with the stage three do you have to do any internal work, or is the engine stout enought to handle the boost? What kind of numbers do you put down with that kind of set up?

            Thanx :d

www.goapr.com you'll see over 300HP easily.. check the kit out yourself it includes a TON of parts but you will probably want to put on a FMIC while your at it.

                    Re: The time has come!

The APR kit is pretty nice but quite expensive, Ken told me that it would be about 6 without install, but i guess it comes with a FMIC and all. But the other thing is that we cant use our club discount with APR products from my past experiences with them. So Id be looking at around 8 all said and done probably and I dont have that kind of cash. The stage III will be about 65-67ish installed with intercooler and thats a little more doable, but i guess we'll see what happens. I mean worst comes to worst I might just get a couple buddies together and install it myself, but i donno. Ugh, so many decisions.

                        Re: The time has come!

There have been a number of threads about this in the past...

The stock engine should be able to handle about 20psi and 300-350ish whp without any problems. However, some other parts such as the clutch may wear out or break. If you are aiming for 350-400hp you will need to build the engine with upgraded rods and possibly do even more depending on your goals.

What are your goals? If you just want to spend $5,000CAD there are cheaper options that will get you a fast car. Do you have a specific HP goal, or 1/4 mile time goal, etc? I can make some suggestions depending on what your goals are. I am sure Dom can too, you should talk with him since he has a pretty quick car

APR has the most complete kit. It is very expensive though, however it is pretty much guaranteed that you will get reliable results. It is also probably the easiest to install yourself. APR also states that their exhaust is mantatory with the kit (I think), price not-included? I do NOT believe most people see 300whp on the Stage III with PUMP gas as Ryan may have mentioned... A lot of people have only dyno'd at around 240whp up to about 270whp on pump gas. On 104 octane you might hit 300.

                        Some things to remember...

ATP is releasing their "K03 Eliminators" in the next 2 months, which will make their State II kit obsolete pretty much, and will drastically change the way a lot of people are looking at BT setups. A GT28RS or GT2871R with a K03 housing from ATP will probably make some nice numbers cheaply.

Many other companies make kits such as FBI, Dubweks, EIP, PAG, etc etc. Most non-APR kits are not as complete and will require that you make additional investment (probably) on stuff that is not included. However you can certainly save money. It also depends on if you want to order 1 big package with all the parts you need, or if you're willing to shop around for each item.

Finally, you will need somewhere to do the installation of the kit etc. This will not be cheap. I would not do it at C1 but that is just my own opinion. Remember also that it takes a while to order these kits, probably 1 month just for the parts to be delivered (if not longer).

                          Re: The time has come!

                          Exactly what kris said.

I was going to get the fbi turbo kit and then get the programming from upsolute until I saw the K03/k04 eliminator kit from ATP.... which will still need Upsolute coding =)

Lets hope the stock manifold can keep up =)

I'd prefer the GT28RS no software kit. And then get upsolute to program the car. Dont forget about your injectors 440's or if you get the 380's then you need a new FPR. VR6 MAF too.

..|.. C1, I wouldn't let them near my car for an upgrade like that!
