  • Dyno Day??

Whens the next dyno day? PLEASE let this be somewhere other then Concept1.

Sometime in the middle of the summer? Get all the mods on and lets get going. Sometime in July? Hopefully the GT28RS bolt on is out =)

If all your other dynos are c1, how will another place tell you what you've gained? Mr. Dyno could tell you you're 250 whp but does that tell you anything? Anyway I'm up for either, but would prefer c1 just to be consistant.

      #1) Concept1 has no A/F Chart
#2) How do you get a properly tuned car without #1
#3) C1 cant dyno an automatic
#4) How accurate is c1's dyno? #'s seemed to be inflated during prior runs

Its nice to just see #'s but dont you actually want to tune your car =)

?? I got AF with mine. How does your transmission matter to rollers in the floor (seriously, it's a dynojet, and they dyno 2WD cars regardless of tranny? I don't get it)

I've been viewing numbers over time, mods have been dynoed. You can only claim to be tuning on a dyno if you actually make changes between runs which is not a dyno day.

Like I said, if a different machine makes people feel better about their cars I'm fine with that, but there can be no "Oh I gained 10hp" comparisons made at all, it's starting from scratch.

          The C1 dyno is consistant?!

Agree with QuA, the dyno produced last time I was at C1 was useless, and that is a fact not just opinion.

However, I am not gonna participate either way.

Ok not to beat a dead horse, but it's a dynojet. They didn't build it themselves out of wood. It's the most popular (and most affordable) way to measure tq. We're slightly a bit higher than most of the other guys on vortex, and it's very likely the machine was miscalibrated. We also have huge variations in pressure. Your going to get different numbers even doing it an hour later.

The guys with TDIs that didn't get a fair run should never have had to pay.

But whatever - if we do some other place, it will be fine. Won't really tell me anything, aside from comparing to other cars (but then you're back into that variance problem).

It's like someone who got an error on a bill at Walmart, trying to say that because of this, all Walmarts are give wrong bills IMO.

I believe they had AF work a while ago. It depends on what gear you want on the roller for an auto, I believe my 4th gear has a better 1:1 ratio. However they couldnt get it to work properly. I dont get it as well.

Dyno day with a proper AF ration would help anyone who's interested in doing custom tuning. I need them to send to Upsolute so I dont run pig rich. The whp would help to see what mods are helping... etc. Chip =) but pretty much 1-5 whp here and there is nothing. Variables can change that easily.
woo hoo turbo inlet hose added -2 hp. too many variables for little bolton things.

When you start adding injectors, maf, fpr etc. I would like to know AF before and after all dynos.

Even if I dyno'd at the same place I would still like to see what I dyno on a different machine, like toma's or that tecmotion place bart went to, just my opinion... if it matters =P

But its good... we gotta get my performance chatting going on! Its been dry in this section.

                  Re: Dyno Day??

As I have said before, if we were to make a day trip to Edmonton there is a dude there who will give us an entire day for around $600. He has a dynojet 248c with A/F.

On the times I have had mine done there the numbers have been dead in line with other guys who have similar cars and mods.

If you don't want a whole day he will do half days too.

                        Re: Dyno Day??

Supposedly some places in the US use 5 gas exhaust gas analyser systems, they are really sweet. They can tell you a lot more than just how rich or lean you are from the 5 gas analysis... you can get a detailed breakdown of the different particles and gasses in your exhaust, and from that you can tell the condition of all kinds of engine parts and fine tune your setup. Obviously to determine what the results mean you need to know what you're doing.

I doubt anyone around here has such a dyno :( But if they did, it would be better than all the others.

Not to bash C1, but we had other problems than the TDI guys not getting proper readings. They only dyno'd my 1.8T to 4900rpm and I had to pay full price, what the smurf? Another issue is that they do not let you sit in the car, which is a problem for those of us who would like to watch our boost gauges, do laptop monitoring, etc etc. I understand that its an insurance issue, but nonetheless I am more comfortable being in the car.

?? Yet you paid? I would have walked out without paying a dime if the sheet was that incomplete. Least that explains why you want to dyno there (which is understandable).

I can see not letting people monkey around with their car on a dyno day, simply because you're waiting for laptops to boot up, programs to run etc - big headache. You want to do that, there's hourly rentals or private 3 run bookings etc.

                              Re: Dyno Day??

I was up in Edmonton over the weekend so I figured I would stop in and visit my favourite dyno and fart around with the SPS3 a wee bit.

Mods = CAI, 4 bar FPR, Revo 4 bar program pre-BDP, stock N75, Mohawk 94

                              Stock 4 bar Revo - 184/238
                              HB0 T6 gave 178/240
HB2 T6 looked real good until there was an evil misfire and a drop to limp at 6,000 RPM.
HB2 T5 put out 182/244 with an AFR that dropped under 10 after 4500 RPM! Hello heat soak! So we decided to stop.

Sadly my e-bay VAG-Com cable showed up TODAY otherwise I would have vag'd every run.

                              Graphs to come.

BTW: This shop offers dyno days where they will close the shop for the day and just run cars on the dyno. $700 for 7 hours of hardcore dyno'ing. The best he has done was 14 cars with 3 runs each for an SRT-4 dyno day. *AND* he knows how to get a proper spark signal from a VW, unlike some others I have heard of.

If there was some serious interest I could probably get the price down a wee.
