  • Tire pressure?

What are you guys running in your 18/19s? Harper's filled my 18s up to 32, but I'm wondering if I should go back and get bumped up to 35 psi of tasty nitrogen.

      Re: Tire pressure?

Costco here in the states, as well as a growing number of stations, are starting to use helium

As for the pressure, I go 35 all around.

        Re: Tire pressure?

17”*8.5” 40 PSI street pressure on Yoko ES100.

Can you feel the difference on the nitrogen filled tires yet?

As I can tell you now you are unsure and running stock pressure. There is no correct answer to what psi to put. This post will eventually get some good laughs, I think. Things like: “Yes, you must run exactly 36.5 PSI. No more or less.” This can be true if everyone runs the same brand of rims and tires, size matters. Better off is to find out yourself if you are serious about driving. Do tests like see if the car understeer or oversteer then add/reduce a pound of air accordingly. Please test drive responsibly on a wide open space.

Running low pressure on 18” or bigger tires will make you cry one day because the tires compress to the maximum then use the stiff alloy to be part of the absorber to the bumps. Enjoy the stock like ride, maybe. The happiness last longer on smooth roads but Calgary nothing is smooth. Too many potholes and railway crossings, they are killers.

Things to cry for like rims cracks and tires sidewall bubble up, now what? Hello AWR or hello new set of wheels. Hear was a story of my friend. I guess the O.Z. Superleggera known for its lightweight and strong construction. He has them(19”) on the M3. He knows to take the car slow to cross the railway crossing that he drives over everyday south of the city. One day really happened to him on one of the front wheel. He heard a strange noise like metal to metal soon he realized steering is pulling on one side. At that moment he believed a tire was blown. He changed out the wheel then found out a piece of the inner side lip on the rim was missing. The people at AWR gave him a big laugh, said can’t fix it, go get a new one. He originally bought them from the TireRack. TireRack said to him nothing they can do but ship back to OZ. No news on the damaged rim for a good two months. OZ said it was result on a high speed impact which means owners fault and no refund. He sold off the remaining three rims. I guess to blame the owner is the easiest way to get out. He had people suggested him to run high pressure not 32 psi that he religiously believed from the stock. Lesson learned in an expensive way.

When you are on aftermarket you can’t follow the stock rules.

40 PSI? Wow, that's quite high. Last time I filled up to that extent was when I did the racing school weekend at Race City. I'm not sure what kind of difference I should be noticing with nitrogen. Harper's claims a number of things, from improved wear to better gas mileage but who knows. Regardless, I'll stick with the nitorgen for the hell of it and go back to them for fill-ups. So, what's everyone else running?

You should run whatever you are comfortable with.

I run my tires a little on the high side, to avoid damage to the rims. 36-38psi.

I like the rear tires to have a little less than the fronts too.

              Re: Tire pressure?

i ran mine to what simon and bart told me.. too low and they will grip better but will handle worst but give a softer ride
more air equals better handling but harsher ride
