My first car was a 97 Neon. I treated it really well, and when I traded it in on my Jetta it was in the exact same shape it was in when I first got it. That said, i took every opportunity to beat the hell out of any car my parents had.

2nd Auto: '91 Ford Mustang GT Engine: 5.0L
3rd Auto: '03 20th Anni. GTi Engine: 1.8T

I must say that although autos 1 and 2 had more of the "tire shredding" attitude... I still get giddy blasting down one of Calgary's finest trails and hearing the tell-tale "....wwwwhhhoooooosh" of my Turbo!

Likewise I was looking for something nice when I got my first car, got a 94 Nissan sentra (man did it get the girls!). That car was in 4 fender benders and the last was did it in (T-Bone)

Second car was a 94 Colt, gave it to my brother for free and got my GLX.

I would go for the point A to point B car before going for the nice car.
