  • Man, THIS SUCKS!!!

Some low-rent, scumbag, pussy, dipsh|t broke into my car tonight . . . right in the 'secure' underground parking lot in my building. I went downstairs to throw out some trash when i noticed all my windows were down. WTF? I got closer and saw that somebody got in and tossed my car. Somebody drilled my lock, turned it all the way to the left and held it there. In case you've never used this stupid function, it's the one that rolls down all your windows. Anyway, my stuff was all over, but there were no valuables whatsoever (except for the $3.00 in change and bridge tokens) and my garage door opener.

Oh well, at least he - or she - didn't have to break my windows. I hope there are no scratches once I get it into daylight.

That sucks!! We had a rash of this last year in Calgary. To fix it we used to take out the old driver's door lock cylinder and stuff two part epoxy puddy in the space where the old cylinder used to be.It dries like metal. Then we put a lock blank cover like what is on the passenger side. You will have to use your remote to get in but at least you won't have this happen again!

          Re: Man, THIS SUCKS!!!

I'm glad to hear that there's an alternative to the original lock mechanism. I guess I know what I'll be doing on my day off . . . I'll use the putty and get a cover.

It's funny that my new car is actually easier to break into than my old MkII (luckily it's much harder to actually steal). I had my trunk release disabled and my rear seats locked or I'd be replacing a decent in-car tool kit as well. It looks like the prick tried to pop my trunk by pulling really hard on it and got some scuffs on my bumper that I should be able to just buff out.

Ryan, to answer your question about the cameras, there are none. The place is so dark that you'd probably need an f/1.0 lens just to pick up anything . . . and I can't see my landlord splurging on that. I called the rental office today and told them that if they didn't at least get some better lights for the place and install a camera that they could kiss a tenant that actually pays rent on time good bye.

Let's face it - I spend more time around my Jetta than I do my girlfriend (she's only naturally aspirated!). If it ain't safe, I ain't sleeping well.

          Thanks for the info.

              Ok -

Maybe somebody can talk some sense into me. The person that broke into my car actually took the lock cylinder with him (or her . . . they can be evil too). My friend thinks that the dude (or dudette) is going to dupe my key using the lock cylinder. I think he smokes too much sweet, sweet weed, but I've heard of stranger scams. It'd be pretty tough to dupe a laser cut key.

              Thoughts?

                Re: Man, THIS SUCKS!!!

you can't dupe the key based on the lock mechanism really the keys aren't really different between models but the chip inside the key is what matters

but if i was you i'd have your lock mech filled in with steel so it won't happen again and just rely on your remote to unlock the car

Ahhhh . . . I wasn't sure if the keys had chips or if they were simply radio transmitters connected to a flippy metal thing.

Oh, and I'm filling the hole with epoxy tomorrow . . . you're right - it's the only way to prevent it from happening again that I can see.

Good to know about the blank lock covers. I think I may get that done to my car as well when I move to Edmonton just to be safe.

Just fyi with blanks your car is screwed if your remote battery dies or you get the fob wet. Also your valet key will no longer be usable.

I'm thinking of getting it done, but I have the remote start that can open the door as well.

you could always open the trunk tho and sneak inside that way.. but on that note i'd be totally screwed
