    Fault Code

    Hey everyone,

    Just bought myself a VAG-COM cable and found an interesting fault code. If anyone can tell me what the problem is from this code it would be greatly appreciated.

    01166 - Engine Torque Signal

    And also I would like to know who I recalibrate my Speedometer to compensate for my new 17' rims because I was running 15's before.

    Your wheels are the same diameter so you don't need to recalibrate anything.

    Or they should be if you bought the right size tires. For example:

    15" diameter wheels + 5" additional rubber = 20" total.
    17" diameter wheels + 3" additional rubber = 20" total.

    I have never heard of that code. This is a real VAG-COM and not some other ODB scan tool right? The codes/descriptions can and do differ.

      I did some digging, and I believe this is exclusive to Tiptronic.

      Too much torque can kill the Tiptronic transmission.

      You probably exceeded the max for a split second at some point, and it logged the code.

      I don't think there is a problem if it occurs only rarely, you should be able to just clear it.

      I am guessing this is a low priority code and does not cause the Check-Engine-Light to come on.

      I am not sure what kind of sensor is used to detect this. It might actually be based on the MAF readings. If it is re-occurring you might want to log your MAF readings and/or clean/replace the MAF.

        Are you sure about that calculation? I went from 195-65-15's to 225-45-17's? On Monte Carlos for 17 and the Avius 15's for the winters. As for the software it is offical VAG-COM as I bought the cable from Sensolutions and downloaded the software from Ross-Tech.

          It didn't cause a CEL and I think it maybe based on the MAF sensor because it needed replacing about a week or so ago.

            your 15s were off bryce shoulda been 195/55/15 your 17s are proper size tho.. you don't have to vagcom anything for tire sizes..

              Yeah disregard my previous question about the VAG-COM, I was just not realizing it was a tiptronic.

              I was using "Example" values (fake) but here is the real calculation:

              195/65-15 Wheel+Tire diameter: 24.98 inches
              225/45-17 Wheel+Tire diameter: 24.97 inches

              Difference: 0.01 inches or within 0.03%

              You do not need to calibrate with a 0.03% difference.
