^^ I tried that, and it wasn't having any of that. There is something in the way they set up the partition that I can't figure out. It uses two partitions PHTSYS, and PHTDATA. It is the PHTSYS partition that I couldn't duplicate. The other partition can be formatted and reformatted all you like and it doesn't matter. I did alot of searching on the matter and couldn't find much in the way of getting it to work with a drive other than the one it comes with.

As luck would have it the IT guy at my office is also a VW enthusiast. He made the following suggestion:

"I would try Ghost to image the drive, which completely duplicates it and allocates the additional space as free.

Or, use Knoppix to access the drive and do the same."

I'm not entirely sure what the second option would involve, but ghosting a drive is fairly simple. My concern would be opening the cartridge in an overly-vigorous manner, I would probably end up smashing it by accident.

20 gigs is enough. My 40 gig iPod has 5 gigs on it, and I've really been trying my best to fill it up. In the era of Backstreet Boy comeback albums and ten thousand wannabe Britneys there isn't really all that much good music to put on there anyway.

That is what I did... I think my PHTSYS partition may have been corrupt... I am going to try again on my new drive when i get a chance.

I think it's a great deal, but contact the local dealerships to see what their price is. This "super deal" from the states turned out not to be that super. In my hands this thing has cost me $250 CAD. You could probably get the same or better at a stealership.

In a word... yes.

EDIT: I should clarify... install in a jetta takes 10 seconds. In a golf it is not so simple.
