Re: EUtuning: I Need Brakes!
uhh i could be wrong but i think 02+ TDIs have he same size brakes as 1.8Ts and Vr6s (may be wrong)
but if i was you james get some OEM size cross drilled or slotted brembos and new mintex pads.. we did this on dericks car in the summer on all 4 corners and it was good.. we can do the install on mod day it was pretty easy..

Re: EUtuning: I Need Brakes!
That is what I used on the Rabbit, but I can't remember what I paid for 'em, plus I got that employee discount at NL (I still get it depending on who is working the parts counter that day).

Re: EUtuning: I Need Brakes!
I don't know, but employee discount is cost+10%.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and if Danny is serious about supercharging that beast he will want some upgraded brakes to handle that extra power (ie: better than stock brakes)Last edited by Mr. Burns; 04-07-2005, 09:46 AM.

Re: EUtuning: I Need Brakes!
Well you probably have a few options (well your buddy). I can't really recomend brands but Pads is really all you need for the first brake job. Brakes are easy to do, once they are apart just take the rotors into auto value or something and they'll turn the rotors like 40 bucks a pair or something (I could be WAY off on that). If (like was stated) he's gonna supercharge better brakes may be something to consider but I don't know what's on the 2.0 (if it's the same as a 1.8T I doubt you'd need better ones). But if he decides to go with different rotors there's lots of good ones out there. I think crossdrilled is ok for looks but I don't think it does anything for performance other than decrease it, unless they are REALLY high end and have been tempered and whatnot (chime in if i'm way off on this.
Anyway, I've probably just confused you but that's my .02Jay

Re: EUtuning: I Need Brakes!
Pads and then lines/fluid make the biggest different in actual breaking ability.
Bart has some crazy stopping power with just some high performance pads from EUTuning. I would say he can stop in 30-50% of the space I can.KR

Re: EUtuning: I Need Brakes!
Just changing rotors and pads is easy but changing lines and bleading is a little more time consumming. 2L and TDI's have the same rotors and pads and are not swapable with the 1.8T's (they are bigger). Also the caliper carrier is build into the spindle on the 2L to upgradding to bigger rotors is not possible. 1.8t's have a removable braket that can be replaced to run larger rotors. Regular bremo rotors and pagid pads are a cheap combo that I know montgomery carries but for more proformance contact Simon.Name: Brent

Re: EUtuning: I Need Brakes!
Different rotors of the same size really won't help unless they are much lighter weight.
Bigger rotors just help with fade, and as we tested up in Banff last year, you can really really push a VW before you start to see noticable fade.KR

Re: EUtuning: I Need Brakes!
The turned rotor might not able to take up the heat and warp easy because of the thinner in size. As someone reported the PBR brand and I am using the MetalMaster. Overall I have no complains on it on stopping the car on wet, extreme cold or extreme hot weather. Somehow I had encounter people with the PBR Ceramic on their BMWs. They generally came up the conclusion that the Ceramic models are less responsive in cold weather.
Simon was impressed too when he test drove my Jetta.
>Simon: These ain’t stock brakes…
>Me: No.
>Simon: What’s that..
>Me: PBR MetalMaster pads with Brembo cross drilled.
>Simon: Hmmm… The car I test drove with another model of PBR was less responsive.
>Me: I see. Was it with Ceramic model?
>Simon: I don’t remember.
Mintex Red can only serve as good OEM replacement. Not so grabby and brake dust all over. Anyways, the MetalMaster front and rear I use have less dust. Price was decent with PBR.
