  • Anyone Install a TIP (Turbo Inlet Pipe)?

I have a new ABD TIP that I am going to install on my 1.8T soon...I've been hearing that it's a PITA to install.

Does anyone have any experience with these??

What's the best way to install the TIP?

    Thanks.

Peter, you should buy Ryans TIP...

Anyways, the best way to get access to the turbo inlet is to remove the engine from the car. Or simply start from the air box and begin removing everything behind it until you have a box of rubber parts tubes etc and you can see the aluminum turbo inlet pipe. this is a ***** and one of those things that there is no EASY way of doing it.

It took me and a buddy about 2 hours to do. Like sean said, you have to start at the air filter and then take stuff off all the way to the turbo. A ring looking clamp is holding the rubber intake tube to the turbo pipe, then one screw holding the inlet pipe to the turbo. Put the pipe on and just start putting stuff back together. It took us 2 hours because I had a pipe off of a 2000 motor and the turbo inlet is a millimeter bigger on the 2001, so we had to lay around with a rubber ring in the pipe to get it to fit to the turbo properly. If you have the right pipe for you car, I can see it easily being done in an hour. You can do everything from the top of the car meaning no need to jack the car up or anything. It's tight in there so you can forget about using to hands effectively in there.

After it's installed, I didn't notice many gains for a few days. I think it takes a little bit for the ECU to learn that it has a bit more air to use.
