  • Servicing, Dealerships in Edmonton

    Hi all,
I have a 2003 VW GLS Golf and I'll be relocating to Edmonton in May by the 18th.

Does anyone know of a good dealership there for all the regular scheduled stuff and warranty work?I just had my heated seats recalled they were ok but Harbourview in Nanaimo checked them out for me as a precaution.

Once my Warranty is over any small shops you recommend?

    Thanks in Advance.

I think Southgate VW is the biggest VW dealership in Edmonton, but I have never visited any of them, its just a vague memory from when I was car-shopping up there.

I bought my car at Norden in the wested, and after just the buying and first service experience I'll never set foot in the place again. Southgate has been awesome. I took my 87 jetta there for a while and my 2000 tdi jetta and the service is fast, friendly and no bulshi**ing about what you need.

After that I have found that west side auto is very in the vw loop but a littel $$$. For a true hippy vw experience I really recommend Darsh in the north end. The guy was born in a vw, nows everything about them, and will always give you 3 options - quick, temp fix, reasonable $ fix and go all out for your baby fix then you choose what you want.

So the moral of the story

      1. Southgate
      2. then Darsh

      Cheers

You're only 2 dealer choices in Edmonton are Southgate (South side) and Norden (West end). Toss a coin.

As for other garages, I've been pleased with both Westside and Basco.

If you don't have to take it to the dealership, take it to Darsh. He's awesome. If you do have to take it to the dealer, i'd recommened Southgate before Norden. I've had unpleasant experiences at both, but moreso at Norden.

          Southgates parts-guy is awesome too.

Thank You so much. You all have helped me feel so much better about my move to Alberta. I am still under Warranty for some stuff .I only have 38,712 for Mileage on my car.

I love my Golf ,and it is awesome in the wet snow out here. I have to get a blockheater put in for next winter when I get there. I want to get proper undercoating done there as well.

*Please excuse my typos and missed words. Sometimes I'm typing what I want to say so fast as my hunt and peck method of typing will allow I forget words or misspell them not realizing what I have done. It is sometime hard to see your written mistakes. *

            Thanks Again.

Stay away from Norden. They are the WORST for any kind of technical advice or information and horrible for repairs. IMHO possibly the worst VW dealership in Canada.

Southside is commendable, Westside is good.

                      Re: Servicing, Dealerships in Edmonton

Wierd. I've had nothing but good experiences at Norden. When I had my Corrado, I took it to southgate a few times and was basically treated like a second class citizen becasue I didn't have a "new" VW. It took forever to get my car in there, then it took them 6 days to repair a problem that they said would take less than a day to fix. I guess my Corrado wasn't important enough to fix because everytime I went by it was parked in the exact same spot on the lot, but I was told it was "inside and being worked on as we speak".

So far with Norden, any time I've needed to go there I have gotten in on the same day or day after, and everything I've needed done was done well and on time.

Keep in mind these are just my personal experiences so I can't vouch for how they have treated others, but I know that personally I'm not going back to Southgate.

                        Hey All,
I will be living out in Beaumont, Alberta so Southgate would be closer for me than Norden. Wouldn't it?

I also had simular experiences out here with dealerships. The dealership here in Courtenay was great to buy from but horrible in the service department. The NEW VW Golfs have foam running rails to carry the water away. The running rails on my car were striped - had tiny cracks in it so when it raining it dripped over the center of all four doors in heavy rains. The Dealership here tried telling me my water leak was condesation from water in the floor mats. They were rude to me had me in tears, and I had to get my husband to go with me to sort them out.

Long story short it took driving 1 hour and 10 minutes one way to Nanaimo for them to figure out in ten minutes what was wrong, and then only a week for the part to come in.

Meanwhile my car had been into the shop 6 times in my local shop and they still couldn't figure it out.

HA! VW of Saskatoon has all the alberta dealerships beat when it comes to worst dealerships. I could go on for pages about personal and good-friends' experiences there.

I've been to P.A., S'toon, Southgate, Norden, Capilano in N.Van, Guildford? (G something in Vancouver), none in calgary though, and Saskatoon is on a completely different level of crappiness compared to the others... And they charge 15+% for parts.
