I was just thinking about this and can't get over how odd it seems. I'm not sure what the technical term is for them -- the little dishes that sit in the engine bay on top of the front struts, held on with a big nut. There's about an inch or so of space between the bottom of the dish and the actual recess where it looks like they should fit. Why aren't they flush? I can't remember exactly how the front struts are held in place from when Simon installed them but I seemed to remember them only bolting in from the bottom, so essentially they're just pressed against the top with pressure (could be wrong on that though).

So why do the strut caps stick up so high anyway?

Re: So why do the strut caps stick up so high anyway?
If you change the strut mounts (the rubber things that sit on the top end of the strut) they should sit flush. The poke is from the rubber getting soft and allowing the strut to move up as a whole unit.
