I'm new to the VW market so I'm kinda confused on how the engine codes work. I have a May of 04 Jetta tdi and I'm wondering where to look for an engine code. I'd also like to know the other engine code for VW's around my year so I know what you guys are talking about.

Most 2001 1.8t's are called AWW
2002 and newer 1.8t's are called AWP
Pre-2004 TDI's are called TDI's?
Post-2004 TDI's are called PD TDI's?
Pre-2002.5 VR6's are 12v VR6
Post-2002.5 VR6's are 24 VR6Simon

Re: How do engine codes work
I think I know what your looking for:
The "older" TDI is ALH
The PD TDI is BEW
It should be stamped on the head (?) under the engine cover I believe. I think all 04's should be PD's but I could be wrong (and you should be able to tell now).Jay
