  • Clickin clutch pedal/cable?

My 86 GLI has a self adjusting clutch cable which I just installed. I was replacing a manually adjusting one which was clicking when I pushed the clutch in & depressed. It is still clicking after new cable install... I have checked out all I could and it seems the sound is coming from the firewall.. There is nothing catching it the only thing I can think of is that I am missing a rubber piece or something... Can anyone help me out with some advice to fix this problem?

Not sure if this applies in this case, but I had to replace the pedal bracket on my MkII when the clutch cable started to make strage noises. Like you, I replaced my cable, checked everything, and said WTF? I got a used pedal bracket for like $20 and spent a LOT longer than anticipated. Install was a PITA, but the problem never came back. The pivot point on my old pedal bracket was bent from age and use (that's what we'll say).

      Cheers.

I never had that problem on my 85, yet the diesel was so noisey that bet I missed half the small noises it made.

I agree. On my 91 GTI, I had to replace the pedal assembly as well. It solved the noise problem/sticky clutch movement problem that I had. The part is cheap. Unfortunately it is a PITA to install.

Dude - that's so funny! My '86 was also loud and it wasn't even a diesel! Ahhh . . . those were the days. If I could find a 'new' '86, I'd buy it.
