  • New to site; got questions...

Hey guys! I am new to this site, it is really cool!! I have a 95 Golf III. I really like my car. I am the 5th owner so i had to do all this stuff to it, clutch, water pump, timing belt, cerpentine belt..... The normal stuff for a 10 year old car. I was told that i have to replace the rear break cylinders. How hard is something like this to do? I put on a Short ram air filter on my car. I know that is nothing compared to what ya'll do, but for me that was an accomplishment. the only thing that i spent some money on was rims and wheels. the car is in great shape for the year and all.

Anyway, i have a few questions.

    1) Where can i get a replacement windshield washer fluid tank? Mine has a crack in it.

    2) Where can i get the parts for the wheel cylinders? Dealer???

I was given an est. for the wheel cylinders and they said 260 for parts and labor. is that a good deal; or is that a rip off? is that something that i could maybe do myself, with a little help from someone who knows what they are doing?

There were some other questions that i had, but i can't think of them now. I will post them later. I am really glad that i found this site. It seems like it has a lot of good info.

Thanks in advance!!! I will post some pics later......

Welcome, I have a 96 golf with almost nothing done to it, you'll fit in fine.

As for the rear brakes, do you have drums in the back? if you do, a route you may want to look into is converting the rear to Disc brakes, it may cost you a little more but it's a nice mod. Once the weather gets nicer I plan to give it a try on my car.

I actually was thinking of doing that, changing them to discs in the back. how much does that generally cost? i would be up for that, the car would stop better i would assume. are we talking like under 1000 dollars to do that?

I thought of another question, my "check airbag" light has been on since i got the car, about a year ago. is there anything that i should worry about? i assume that it just is not good anymore, after 10 years and just needs to be replaced. if so where could i get one, other than the dealer? according to the manual, i should have gone to the dealer right away!!!! not sure what to do, my dad kept bugging me about it when i got the car orig, but he has not said anything since.

one more thing, i am thinking of taking all the writing off the car, the GOLF III logo, that stuff. is there anything that i should worry about when getting that off the car? how can i do it, and will the paint underneath look funny? how can i replace the plastic VW logo in the center of the hatch in the back? it looks crappy since the paint came off the plastic. i would like to get a crome one to match the front. should i just paint it, or replace it with a new one????

thanks for the warm welcome guys! this is a really cool site to be a part of!

Do you mean wheel bearrings? Montgomery auto (4nparts.com) will press in new bearings for you for about $50 each, or atleast that is what my old mk2 ones cost. I have a press at work if you want to do it yourself. I would also hit them up for a rear disk conversion as they are a VW wrecker.
Edit: umm in atlanta.. hmm look around for a VW wrecker there lol.
