Paper is best. Cai if you want a bit more noise and possibly 1 or 2 hp shifted up range.

Stock is best for performance with a 1.8T, but if you want looks, go for a CAI.

i wouldn't say stock is best for performance.. thats a total lie.. there are several CAI shootouts done by magazines that show an increase in performance and torque with a CAI..

All of the real world long term experiences I've read over the last few years have shown that the stock air box is the best combination of airflow and heat control. *shrug* Everyone will use what they're happy with.

thanks for the input! the one down fall for a cai for me is i drive the car in the winter so i would have to switch back and forth between the two cause i dont want to suck up any water. So which is better in term of hp gains?

Yah magazine articles that sell advertising space to CAI companies.

And doesn't APR say to use the stock box with their stage 3 kit?

The point is there's nothing conclusive that shows you get gains with a CAI. So for the money, you're better off buying something else that does have proven results. Like a chip - or a Samco.

                    Re: CAI vs DROP IN

Turbo inlet pipe.....just a fancy blue silicon tube......I'm considering changing back to my stock box and K&N, just to smooth out the sound a bit, see how the power changes, plus I need to clean my cone filter on my CAI......I don't think there was any difference between my stock.vs.Coolflo.vs.CAI transition....

K&N all the way baby, I've run several cars with and without a K&N and there is a differance in power, or should i say power delivery. Not saying that it is big ,but it is there. As well throttle response is improved...

                            Re: CAI vs DROP IN

So, I changed my CAI for my stock box and my K&N today, I smoothed the bottom of the airbox, didn't have the patience for the top, I'll wait until it gets warmer....I have to say, I'm much happier with the airbox, a fraction of the "droning" sound at idle and smooth smooth acceleration.....The car sounds more refined, and I have to say, judging by how I was breaking traction today, there was no detrimental power effects....I guess the sounds of the CAI made me really pay too much attention to all the "bad" mechanical sounds the car was making.....I think I'll be keeping this setup in the car, and keep the CAI in the basement for when I feel like using it....I do get much less spool sounds, and the DV is quite quiet now, but I can hear my supersprint system much better.....anyhow, my .02
