  • Oil Filter wrench??

    Hey guys,
Quick and dumb question. I need a new oil filter wrench, the crappy band-type one I used on my integra just ain't gonna cut it....

Was wondering if you guys know where I can get a good end-cap style one that will fit the filter (the A4's standard oil filter is the same as the Passat and Golf's, measures 70mm in diameter, blah blah blah) or....even better than the end-cap style, the "claw style" (looks like three claws that clamp down as you rachet it)....????

    Thanks in advance!

gawd I remember first time changing the oil on the TDI...that thing was ***** to get off. I got the claw style one from Canadian Tire, cost like $20 I think, could probably use it around the kitchen too for opening jars and stuff

Yeah...tried looking at two dif Canadian Tires, one in Country Hills and the other in the hood (Franklin)....they have the regular band type and the "looks like a giant set of pliers" type....

I had to stab it last time with a screwdriver and got a nice shower of oil for my trouble...now that I've figured a way to get to it from the top, I'll need a good filter wrench....!

The drain plug was on so tight last time I had to whip out my breaker bar and put all my weight on it!

Last time I took mine off I just stabbed it with a screwdriver and used that for leverage. Crude, but it works.... and hey, you were replacing that filter anyhow, right?

whatever you do, DONT get the plastic endcap-style wrench from Cdn tire. The filter is on so tight, the plastic will just 'skip' over the grooves on the filter.

You gotta find yourself a metal one.

I went to a local shop out here and got a buddy to order me a metal one from Mac Tools (the tool guy comes by once a week). Works like a charm! Cost $10, if I remember right.

the oil keeps the rubber from drying out and dont crank the new filter on i had the first oil change done on my car and the filter was very hard to get off
