  • Whoosh <---- turbo noise

    Well,

I was on my home from my girlfriend's tonight when, all of a sudden, this freakin' car pulls up behind me and starts giving me the ass-riding/zig-zag treatment. The dude obviously wanted to race. I gotta say that as much as I love accelerating quickly and taking fast corners, road racing ain't my thing. I see the end product of jackass drivers all the time and I need to drive for work, so losing my license would be bad news. Anyway, I just let off the gas figuring the guy would just pass me a go away - no dice. He just pulls up next to me in his Mazda 3 (2.3L) and matches my speed.

So, since there was nothing but straight road in front and I was doin' 'bout 60 in a 90 zone, I decided to really step on it for the first time since buying the car. I clutched, blipped, downshifted and floored it - my best shift ever (hope i can do it again). I shifted at about 4700rpm and just kept pulling through fourth . . . what a rush (then my brain took over and just let off the gas). I was able to do a good two count before dude passed me (well, more like 1 1/2 ) Smartest thing i've ever done? Nope. Most fun? Nope - but had i been naked in the car the answer would be and emphatic 'YES!!!!'

    I learned a few things tonight -

    1> turbos rock
    2> glad i didn't buy a Mazda
3> can't believe my engine is the 'weaker' 1.8t
4> can't wait for that CHIP!!!
    5> turbos rock

Try to hunt down an occasional unsuspecting rice burner? There are some fast ones in Cow Town. Take it to the track is a smarter choice.

Are you sure the car wasn't chipped by the previous owner? If not, you really need to get a ride in a chipped one.

As far as I know, it's not chipped. Any way to tell without using a dyno?

If you've been in a chipped car you'd probably be able to compare, or another stock 150. It depends on what you're used to I guess. Good excuse to get a boost gauge.

You could also look at the ECU - half the guys here can probably remove it in 2 minutes, but I've not done it.

I've been in another stock 150 and i can say that, according to my ass dyno, my car is faster . . . probably just in better tune I'd say, but I'm going to check out my ECU this weekend. I was planning on installing a boost gauge once the weather gets nicer anyhow
