  • GIAC X+ chip

GIAC has a new version of their extreme chip...on a stock turbo it'll spike 22-23psi and hold 18 at redline....sounds dangerous but the people on wh0retex think its new and innovative......

    Link

Dunno if I'd do it to my own car but sounds like it pulls like a beast with the stock snail!

Even at HB9 T0 on the SPS3 with (almost) 100 octane in the tank, on a cold day I can not get the K03s to wheeze past 15-16 nearing redline. The spikes go way past 22 psi at low RPM, but I can't say where they go exactly. The boost gauge was purchased when my prevailing thoughts were 'pffft, when will it EVER go past 15 psi at the most! I'm not going to mod this car at all!'

Oh, and it certainly isn't faster when holding that boost level for more than a couple quick sweeps to 6500.

Maybe they found some K03s Bosch Motronic super power-up!

      Or not.

Hahahhaa....in any case, boost that high is so far out of the K03's efficiency range its just blowing superheated air, right?

While its not for my engine (AEB) it was something to read when you're bored!

Bart subscribes to the go big or go home philosophy in life it seems! Ain't nothing wrong with that, you gotta pay to play!

My problem is I can't pay for a new motor/turbo so the most I can play is my UP chip, exhaust and other minor bolt-on goodies...!

I bet if you add up all your bolt ons they approach the cost of a turbo upgrade...

Thats what I did, and decided: no more bolt ons, ever.

I think I have mentioned this before but on my other car I put on well over $5000 in bolt-ons and internal modifications to gain around 50 wheel HP. Then I spent another $2000 on a turbo and intercooler from ebay and gained over 100 wheel HP.

On a car that is turbo to start with bolt-ons need to be selected for a very specific purpose (i.e. light underdrive pulleys on a BT car to enhance pre-spool torque) or they should be the last thing you do to wring the last bit of power out of a full upgraded turbo.

                    Re: GIAC X+ chip

If I had to do it all over again I would definitely choose differently, with less bolt ons such as chip, tip, cai, etc.

D@mn! What did you guys do for bolt ons??? I have a simple intake, exhaust and chip...the only other things I will get (if I choose not to get a big turbo kit) would be a new clutch and flywheel....before clutch and flywheel, my (power related) bolt ons add up to less than $1400.00! There's no need for a new intake manifold or exhaust manifold at the power level I am at (the APR Stage III comes with one anyways).........
