  • Alberta wheel repair (already??)

So, unfortunate incident, I was changing off the rims for the 15's today, had a friend helping me, and he managed to lay one face down (accidentally) on the road.............well, kinda dropped it......so it chipped a bunch of silver paint off the spokes, so now I have to get that wheel redone.....I'm not convinced of AWR's work yet, with all the problems or quirks everyone else has had with them, is there any other place that would be recommended?? It needs nothing more than to be sanded and painted, so would a body shop do that??? Anyhow, that was my crappy day.....

damn. If it is that minor of a repair then yeah I'd definately think that a body shop could do it. Best bet is to probably call around and just ask.

AWR is the best game in town. Don't be a dick and you'll most likely be happy. 80 bucks a wheel to have them straightened out for me, and Santos had a few choice words about some other car forum guys (not us I believe).

well in all honesty the only reason to 'be a dick' would be if the work quality was garbage but thats just me

First off they are the only game in town :( Second I have had nothing but problems with their quality control and the speed they do their work. My rims where there for almost 2 months and where only done right before wow. They sanded the hubs but never painted them so they are there again, they asked if I wanted to pick them up the next day but I said no hurry so phone me when they are done. Big mistake they still haven't phoned after a week, shoud have learned the first time. Plus to boot they broke all the tabs on my center caps and I forgot to take them off after wow so I lost one Not sure what they are going to do about that either. I would say use them as you have no other chose but don't but up with any BS. BTW I don't think any body shops have the right guns to spray the clearcoat that AWR uses, it is thicker and almost rubber like, plus at $50 I bet a body shop qould quote you atleat 4 hours.

Yes he'll tell you get out and to take your wheels somewhere else. He's a cranky old guy, but can't say I blame him - and he's pretty much a monopoly. But I chatted with him for a good 15 mins while he was going over one of my wheels and it's sometimes good to hear the other side of things. One of the more famous complaints I had read about online was some guys wheels flaking off after less than a month - course they didn't mention the customer had pressure washed them (paint takes months to fully cure).

While I was waiting, I also watched him offer to redo all 4 wheels because the shade of gunmetal was off. They were freaking mint but not exactly what the customer asked for. That's all I needed to see.

I haven't heard back about my wheels yet. Last Tuesday was a week (the estimated time of completion) and while the receptionists were nice, my calls weren't returned so I don't know what the status of my wheels is. Fortunately I'm not in a huge rush since winter is on its way back. I found Santo to be a really nice guy though, who took his time showing me everything. I'll call again this Tuesday and see what's up and also report in on the quality when I get them back.

Get SOS bodyshop to do it!

Map and info to SOS Bodyshop

Ask for Loc and tell him Dave the foreman from SCFC sent you. He'll hook you up.

I took one of my wheels there on my ol' 2.0 and they had it done in just over a week and it looked great. THey did however quote me 4 days to do it (I needed it in a rush) and it turned out to be about 9 days.

But good quality and the price isnt bad.

A little off topic here but Simon I was up at SAIT last week and saw an ad for your old car for sale..

Back to the wheel repair I think they key is making them know exactly how you want things done and then being patient.

Well I don't think AWR is the only game in town anymore. last week I saw this guy with a new SiR jacked up in our work parking lot. He was refinishing the wheels while the guy worked! He has a small trailer and does everything on site. I don't know who the owner of the SiR is otherwise I'd ask how he liked them. Anyway, I couldn't get a card or anything (he was inside the trialer) but I got the website. It looks like it's a franchise thing.

                              www.mobilewheelrepair.com

That should be it, you can find the Calgary guy in there somewhere.
